There are tons of options for clip on side shields for glasses. I added a set to my favorite glasses for fishing. Anything from tinted to leather side shields are available and absolutely no light leakage around them. Later, I bought a pair of prescription polarized sunglasses with the leather side shields.
I have these things I bought off Amazon that goes on the front windows of the car to block the sun from hitting my eyes. I forget what they’re called. However, when the sun comes further down towards the earth they become unhelpful.
It’s really a plague. My mother hasn’t had any eye surgery and even she gets upset at the sun while driving. She refused to get her windows tinted because of the law. It’s kinda hilarious but sad at the same time watching her argue with the sun every time she drives. Right now she wears these beach hats to help with blocking the sun from blinding her as she drives.
I find it strange that the law doesn’t seem to care about this issue.
That is correct. With glasses my vision acuity is 20/15.
Also, we have a new Toyota rav4. It surprises me that the manufacturer designed the sunvisor for this particular vehicle extremely small, so small that they can’t be used to block direct sunlight coming from the front, either can they be used to block light from the side.
So now we are looking at Amazon to search for extensions.
I’m still searching around to find these you mentioned. The issue I’m currently having with finding the correct clip-ons with the wrap around is the proper figment. My glasses calls for 54/19 size.
It’s been 4 years of searching with no luck.
Get prescription sunglasses and add a product like this:
It doesn’t seem that complicated to me.
I don’t think this is complicated either . But everything for Clueless seems to be complicated.
I’m going to try these.
Thanks for the suggestion.
You can lack them out with paint if needed…
I’d be looking for an optometrist that can help you with your particular needs.
Trust me. I’ve discussed this with all my eye doctors. They are all aware and have tried their best to help with this situation, even went as far as to write to the DMV office requesting tinted windows.
I’ve gone to numerous eyewear outlets in search for something to help with this condition.
Notice I asked for the community’s opinions on the law on tinted windows ? This because I wanted to hear from various viewpoints.
Not much was shared on the law about tinted windows but more so about finding a solution.
Of course, I’m sincerely appreciative of the help offered here. I should have also made it clear in my post that I’ve tried these things suggested to me.
So I apologize for that.
I’m going to try the side thing that goes on the prescription glasses to see if it helps. I’m worried about it obstructing my side view but we will see.
Another thing is having the sun burn your face while driving.
When I drive the rav4 that doesn’t have tint on it, the sun can be brutal on my face, especially from the side.
Well, you asked about changing a law for your case, that’s not gonna happen, for good reasons. So folks have tried to solve your problem the only practical way, sunglasses.
Well, on one hand, choosing to protect the police is a reasonable choice by the state if you ask me. On the other hand, exempting SUVs and certain other vehicles from the rear side window requirements is questionable if that’s the priority.
On another note, I hope you carry a copy of the doctor’s letter in your car. That might help you out if you are stopped for any reason, even if the DMV didn’t approve your request.
I also agree with the law on tinted windows. Ive seen cars with pitch black tint. And it bothers me that I can’t see who is inside the car so I can make proper judgment concerning my safety. But tint of 50% and up are clear enough to see the inside of the car while helping with sunlight issues at the same time.
This is my car. And it has 50% tint on the windows. You can clearly see the inside of it.
So I’m just confused as to why the law says this is illegal.
If your eyes are bad enough that you can’t wear curved lenses, then you have no peripheral vision anyway. I don’t.
I’m not too sure about why I can’t have curve lenses.
My peripheral vision is excellent. I’d have to ask the doctor what their reason is.
I see from the side of my eyes just fine.
As I’m typing out this to you, I saw a lady drove by and she was wearing this huge black thing over her eyes. I assume they’re glasses. It looks like a swimming eye shield.m ( goggles )
The police must have better vision in southern states, Washington and Montana.
Dark tint makes it more difficult to see out of the vehicle at night. Vehicle headlights are easy to see but a car without headlights can go unnoticed. When road testing a car with dark tint, I lower the front windows when making right or left turns so I can see pedestrians or bicycles approaching from the sides. Dark tint also obstructs the vision in side view mirrors.
See link for explanation of prescription limits and wraparound frames
Great points, Neveda_545.
Concerning night driving, your points make sense. I believe, however, this depends on how dark the tint is.
I personally haven’t had issues making left or right turns at nights with 50% tint. But I did on the Camry when it had 20% and 35% tint.
50% is super light, at least it feels that way to me. People with poor eyesight might not feel comfortable with it I suppose.
Also, during the daytime when driving the rav4 that doesn’t have any tint on the front windows, it can be hard to see the blind spot monitor light on the side mirrors because of too much sunlight. The Lexus doesn’t have this issue because of the tint.
I see there are pros and cons on both sides of having vs not having tint. The best we can probably do is invest in glasses
