Pre-heater hose: clamps?

I am replacing a pre-heater hose that is disintegrating. The old one was replaced by a mechanic 14 years ago. There are currently no clamps at the ends. Should this be held at the ends with clamps?

Also, I see there are a couple basic types of material available for sale. Cheapest seem to be of thin aluminum. More expensive are made of aluminum and paper. Is there an advantage to the type made with paper?

The aluminum ones last a long time.

Just get the right diameter.

There’s no need for clamps.
