Ozzy gone at age 76

For the head bangers out there that love to jam while driving, the Great Grammy winning Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning at the age of 76..

RIP Ozzy, here’s to that Crazy Train of life… Sad day.

I thought you were talking about Ricky Nelson’s dad for a minute.

While anyone’s passing is sad, I think it’s fair to say that he abused his body for many years. I recently lost a friend from my Undergraduate years, and the same was true for him. It was very sad, but… in the end… not very surprising.

Well, 76 ain’t bad. Abuse away! Loved Ozzy, he could put on a concert! Look on YouTube for Ozzy, some huge crowds back in the day!

He did so many drugs back in the day that pretty much nobody thought he would make it past 50, his July 5th 2025 Black Sabbath concert just raised more than $190 million for 3 charities, that is the highest grossing charity concert of all time surpassing FireAid and FarmAid combined according to Billboard… Even if the final numbers are a little less, that is still a WOW!!!..

Ozzy had a VERY unique voice and one that you knew was his, as soon as he started singing, even if you had never heard that song before… Truly a legend…

What kills me the most is the passing of Theo ( the Cosby show actor ) who drowned on the 20th in Costa Rica.

76 in Ozzy years is more like 120 in normal people years.

Very similar to Johnny Winter passing at 70. But about 112 in people years.

Glad to have them both around giving joy to so many fans for so long. Flames that burned hard instead of fading away.

I couldn’t “like” Dave’s initial post because I don’t like it. But, as noted, it’s a miracle he made it this long. I haven’t listened to the Blizzard of Oz for a long time. I’ll be blasting it out sometime soon. And also remembering Randy Rhoads who, as far as I know did not abuse himself. But even if he did, he was only 25 and it was a plane crash. Now that was tragic.

Now, the real question. Is Keith Richards even human? How can he still be alive?

He lived this long because his wife straightened him out. He said often that Sharon saved his life.

Yes, Malcom-Jamal Warner’s accidental death is a shame too. I didn’t follow his career but it seems it was long and fruitful. Happy family life too.

The Bill Cosby Show was a vital part of my upbringing. Every character in that sitcom I refer to as my own family, having watched every episode and own every collection — it is no wonder I had a meltdown over Theo’s death.

His death hit close to home. It felt like my very own blood had passed away. Brought tears to my eyes, especially the circumstance he died.

The late radio DJ John Donald Imus said the same thing about his wife Deirdre. He passed in his late 70s, but might not have made it to 60 if he hadn’t met her.

Rock and roll is littered with the bodies of the young…

Hendrix, Joplin, Bonham, Morrison, and Winehouse to name but a few.

Some made it a little farther… Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher…

And then there is Keith Richards…

And two Beatles.

(though I don’t think they played around as ‘hard’ as some of those you mentioned)

A friend (kinda although I still wonder) wrote a book about his time with the Doors. I think he was back up keyboard or something and traveled with them. Drugs.

Morrison’s big problem was alcohol.

Here’s an interesting factoid about Morrison’s family. His father was a US Navy Admiral who was involved in the Tonkin Bay Incident.

When Jim attained notoriety as a counterculture figure, his father was ashamed, and he offered his resignation to The Pentagon, but they declined to accept it.

That was local news in the late 1960s in the DC area.

Many members of the “27 Club” were my favorites.
Fortunately Ozzie passed that.
Ozzie Nelson was mentioned. The band performing on New Years Eve stopped playing to announce Ricky’s death.

Now to get back to cars: which musical group or musician had the coolest car(s).

Bobby Darin had what was purported to be the most expensive custom-made car, back in 1961. He performed at a venue in my home town, and some rabid fan girls “painted” their names on it with nail polish, possibly ruining the custom paint. My brother witnessed that extreme act.

This was the car:

It’s on display at the National Museum of Transportation, in St. Louis.
