Now you are talking about someone I remember. I guess I’m either too young or too old or just not into that music to know most of th3 folks you idolize.
It made me remember though the kid wanted to buy a cd, might have been weird Al or someone but we said no. Thought it was obscene and inappropriate. We did offer he could buy it but we would keep it secure until some point in the future. At that point it was nowhere to be found. Something happened to it over a few years. Now I wonder if he searched and found it and never confessed. Of course we feel bad about th3 whole thing.
Gene Simmons of KISS never smoked, drank or did drugs… Paul Stanley has an operatic voice as well as Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden… Bruce also has his commercial pilots license and flies the bands chartered Boeing 757, known as Ed Force One during their world tours…
But this was not about all that, it was just meant to be a simple RIP Ozzy for those who liked to crank up the radio while driving there vehicles… Nothing more, nothing less…
Still, at least my parents at the time relented, and allowed me to grow my collection of hard rock albums at such an early age. I’m sorry for that kid whose parents thought the CD they wanted was “not appropriate”, presumably for a kid a lot older than I was when I got into the Kiss thing.
RE: Weird Al, saw him in concert, unfortunately most of his parodies were of songs that I was not familiar with (I’m old😀).
I only knew “I Love Rocky Road”.
RE: Bobby Darin’s car, pretty wild. When I asked the question, I was thinking of the Monkees
I wasn’t talking about their personal lives but their rock personas. KISS allegedly stood for ‘Knights in the Service of Satan’, they wore wild makeup, sometimes tried to offend. Weird Al politely gets permission for his parodies (which is why he never performed his Prince parodies) and none of them are mean. Maybe he’s rude in his private life - I don’t know.
I was just asking. People get grief for non-auto threads. I’m liberal on the issue.
Gene (of KISS) wanted a shock factor that would draw a crowd and sell albums, with the likes of Ozzy/Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper etc Gene wanted to stand out… It was all an act and it worked great for them all…
All our kids grew up hearing us playing Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and the hair bands, me while driving and or working on cars and her (wifey) while driving and cleaning house, we still all jam out anytime we are driving somewhere, we all have a very wide music range…
I’ll crank up the music and get in a zone when welding, cleaning and building transmissions and all around working on the fun car and other projects when alone…
It was actually rumored to be Knights in Satan’s Service, also Kids in Satan’s Service… but in reality the name “KISS” was suggested by Paul Stanley while driving with bandmates Gene Simmons and Peter Criss. The idea came after Criss mentioned he had previously been in a band called “Lips.” Stanley thought “KISS” sounded catchy and cool.
But the REAL meaning of KISS comes from overthinking something and not sticking to the basics of diagnostics…
Keep It Simple Stupid…
My wife will say, did you KISS it?? If I am having issues with something…
Oh wow, yes Hulk Hogan died today at age 71… I have seen multiple Live interviews or whatever you call them here lately and he seemed fine… Another Great one in his field… RIP Hulk…
I almost passed this year as well. Recovery process is drastically slow. And although I haven’t passed, it’s still possible. Prayers and continued faith in the Creator is a must.
How to combine cars with our music thread. Beyonces flying Cadillac! Then Katy Perry’s butterfly, I wonder if it was an Iron Butteryfly.
Silly me, when I went to concerts, the performers were on a stage, though the Righteous Brothers may have stretched that, I think they got up on the bar, it was their third performance of the day.
Sad to hear that! I was just out of college, brought to New Orleans for a job interview. After the interview they took me to Preservation Hall to hear some good New Orleans jazz. A bit into the opening set, in walks Mangione and played with them for the rest of the evening. I’ll never forget it!
Don’t forget musician John Mayall. The lead of the Blues Breakers. Everyone who was anyone in the UK rock and blues scene played with John. He was 90. Must have lived a clean life.
Musicians with great car collections… There are and were many.
Jeff Beck, John Bonham, John Oats of Hall and Oats had a great Porsche collection. AC/DC member Brian Johnson has a great collection and raced cars.
We were talking about @bing's reaction to his kid wanting to buy a Weird Al album, not a careful evaluation of the actual behavior of the musicians. Sarah Vowell’s parents objected to KISS.
So it seems. I only heard others talk about them. I didn’t think it was serious even if they owned up to it.
