Let$uck 2016 RX350 requires subscription to remote start

Yes, there is a way around this but a costly way.

What I did, which I later thought was stupid, was paid Toyota $500 -ish to install my own remote start.

Lexus only charges $8 a month for their remote subscription. Not a bad deal.

Oh my bad. This is an old thread. Sorry.

My patented Hamilton Beach engine block skillet was only $4 at Goodwill.
On Simmer all night heats the 0W-20 motor oil and transmission fluid!

Installing a real engine block heater would require thought. I do not want to hurt myself.
(Actually may be difficult to get it in the block.)

Well that package is worthless. Block heater should be available at dealership, or drive across the border. Lexus should have similar or identical part available.
Toyota considers block heaters mandatory on new Toyota’s purchased on the Canadian prairie provinces and at various other specific dealerships.

Exactly, much safer.

The core plugs on that engine are very difficult to access, parts and labor to install a block heater would cost about $1,000.

Yes, but good if cold at 3 a.m. to have then engine warming while getting into uniform and getting to the vehicle.
Hate stressing a cold engine.

Convenience, but never necessary. At minus 20 degree I could still walk to my car and start it, then go back inside for a third cup of coffee.
My current car came from the factory with remote start, I have used it 2 or 3 times in the three years I have owned it.

A Registered Tree-hugger and Greenie is not allowed to use Remote Start.

Just get in, start engine, place in Drive and progress in Idle.
No accelerator until practical.
Engine warms faster under light load and one is making use of the gas.

A neighbor down the street exposes himself to more discomfort.
Puts on his coat and shoes and goes out into the subzero cold wind.
Slides onto his freezing seat and starts engine.
(Does not warm much in Park under no load)
Then into cold wind back into the house and removes shoes.
Then shoes back on, out into the freezing wind and slides onto the cold seat again - if his car is still there.
Twastolen one time. Never learned if recovered.

I just get in, start engine, soon the seat is warm from my body heat and I am gently heading to my destination saving time and fuel.

If a stranger opens the door will the engine shut off? Or will the vehicle be gone?

Someone was disappointed the remote start was not operating:

Simple, I lock the doors. Same here in Florida, traveling with my dog, leave truck running AC on, lock doors. K-Nine officers do the same thing. We are around to break the windows to rescue animals in cars that are not running with the AC on.

You driving 70mph within seconds after starting vehicle?

0229 today, Blood Center calls to have blood and platelets rushed redightsiren to a hospital.
At least the cold engine gets a little warm gently driven out of our neighborhood.
But then onto a 55 mphighway and much higher speeds before the engine attains operating temperature.
Concerned also what is happening in the cold CVTransmission.
(Was a “Perfect Run” - No sirenoise pollution the whole trip!)

Depending your your smart phone and service provider, it is very likely that you can use your phone to “Hotspot” or “Tether” your laptop to your smartphone and use the phone’s data plan to get to the internet

You can Google the instructions on how to do this with your phones make, model, and your service provider.

Some have discovered windows can be broken on a running vehicle.

Do you own the number 1 stolen vehicle in Florida?

Window can legally be broken if car/truck not running with a kid or pet inside.

CO getting into the passenger compartment would also be a concern.

In my area, I would think most others also, K-9 units have a hidden lock out override switch so the vehicle can not be taken out of park, keeps idiots from taking joy rides
