So the metal black piece that holds the mirror becomes 160+ degrees if it’s hot + sun out. My best bet so far is try to park opposite side of the sun, but isn’t always possible depending the parking lot.
but seems the glue is failing when it gets burning hot. It did hold for 8+ months, but trying to avoid worrying/needing to repair it for a 3rd time.
Edit: the rear view mirror black piece is for 2010 Honda civic.
Probably going to get flagged for this post. Putting ( How to reattach mirror to windshield ) in Google would show products, instructions and videos on how to solve this problem. In just a matter of seconds plus any auto glass shop can solve this problem.
This adhesive looks like a good alternative. The two mounting surfaces need to be properly cleaned to promote permanent bonding too. There must be no adhesive from previous bonds on the surfaces. Use an abrasive to remove anything on the surface, then wipe down with a solvent. I’d wipe with acetone and finish with an isopropyl alcohol wipe. One that acetone might be a solvent for your dashboard material. Over the dashboard to prevent getting any acetone on it. After the alcohol wipe dries, follow the 3M instructions for bonding the mirror.
Cracking (lowering) your windows just a tiny bit will help lower the in cabin temps, and help to keep your mirror from falling off…
Good advise above, use a razor blade 1st to remove the old adhesive off the windshield and mirror mount bracket (button), scrape both surfaces clean, then follow JT’s and the adhesives instructions…
Yep, fanatical preparation is the key. A quality adhesive should handle the heat.
