Getting harder to follow threads because of ads

I have noticed lately, using DDG on my laptop, that even though I have zero ads, as I am scrolling fast up/down (looking for a post) that the open space will be there like an invisible ad, but the open space closes rather quickly and does not open back up once closed…

I am using a mac desktop, Safari comes with it, I have downloaded Firefox and Chrome, I mainly use Firefox with Adblock , never paid for the browsers or adblock. What browser are you using that you are paying for?

Have you tried DuckDuckGo? It eliminated problems for me.

I also noticed that, on my table and phone, the jumping up & down slows down to once in a while, if I wait at least 30 seconds for the ads to populate, after going to Car Talk Community. Waiting helps, even if the behavior does not completely go away.

Also, and to be clear about it: this is a web ad designer issue not a CarTalk site issue, but with slide-in ads like this:

An ‘X’ or ‘Skip Ad >’ provision in a pop-up is supposed to close the ad when tapped, on a mobile device, not take the user to the product website. Innovid: I’m looking at you.

If we get to three hundred posts recommending an ad blocker or DDG can we shut it down?

@George_San_Jose1 We all saw and read the post before YOU deleted it

I didn’t see it.
Can you replicate it for those of us who missed it?

Not necessary; We all saw and read…

Not all of us.

I open and check CarTalk Community maybe 2-3 times per day, several hours apart.

Enough time gap for something to be posted and deleted.

I haven’t. I’ll give it a try. It’s been really difficult. Thank you.

I missed it too, I am curious as to what was said…

Obviously not since at least 2 of us regulars and others missed it…

I say, the next time George makes a post, that someone quotes it so we can all see what was said, or screen grab it one…
What George is doing is so disrespectful and childish and should not be allowed…
If George does not want to be part of the forum, then stop posting all together and just PM/DM people, but this c.r.a.p of deleting every new post after being reprimanding by @cdaquila for being childish in other ways is getting old and again I think very disrespectful… imho

That is also my opinion, Dave.

We’ll stop recommending ad blockers when others quit complaining about ads on this forum. When we’ve said over and over what to do about it. (Firefox and uBlock Origin)

We do have another 166 replies to go in this thread.

DB4690 claimed everyone read it, ask him what was posted.

Why don’t we ask the San Jose lurker to repost it?

:sweat_smile::rofl::joy::laughing:

Oldtimer asked George which browser he was using and George answer him.

George could have sent a direct message to Oldtimer-11 but, would he open the message? Also, these message features have been unreliable in the past.

That’s because George and I are having the same issues in CarTalk Community.

I guess I just have more patience, and that’s why I still correspond here.

I’ve had good luck getting messages from George and others. Shows up just like replies to a post. Literally just had ads shoe up but they’re not blocking the reply button.

I scrolled back and saw where he posted. I could see the revision history of his post. It was a pretty generic post with typical George content, but he deleted it. George self-banned, I didn’t tell him to leave. He has some technical discomfort others of us don’t have. For the people who didn’t like what George usually said, maybe it’s best to just say, out of sight, out of mind. He can see what you’re saying; it’s not going to make him behave differently. You can mute him for extra effectiveness if you like. To say he’s being disrespectful by doing this implies that this is more one group of users’ forum than others. And it’s just not. Unless I missed something that somehow didn’t show up in the deleted post andhe took potshots at someone.
