Lately my 2002 Nissan xterra will overflow gas when try filling up . It does not make a difference where or what type of pump is used. The auto shut off on the pump does not kick in until there is fuel running down the side of the truck and onto the ground. What changed and how to fix it?
The pump handles will not click off if you insert them upside down or have upward pressure on the hose side of them, they have to rest with the hose pointed down and pulling down on that end of the handle. Sometimes they don’t work as well if inserted in too far, but if the baffle in the neck of the tank is not damaged, then you should not have that issue.
You might have a cracked or broken vent hose, do you smell gas after leaving the gas station and have cleaned up the spill on the side of your vehicle?
