I’ll second this suggestion, not as someone who answers questions but as an ignorant car idiot who has lots of questions and follow-up questions!!!
Polite request to those of you who have spent the time and effort to create this new version of the board, how about posting periodic overall updated answers to the many suggestions made here. Give us the basic reasons why some features being requested are not included and/or will not be included, what is being worked on to add, etc.
Having at least a reason given why we can’t have what we’re asking for would go a long ways toward pacifying the unhappy horde. LOL
I realize that people generally don’t like having to adapt to change and there will always be complaints. It helps, though, to be given feedback on why or why not things are the way they are.
I agree wholeheartedly with TRed. I’m finding it very difficult to provide a decent answer without seeing the question while I’m typing, and being able to see the other responses at teh same time would be even better.
I also seem to have to check the “agree to terms” box with each individual reply. It gets aggrevating.
I agree. There should be a link back to your current forum at the top of each thread. That way you don’t have to go back to the index if you just want to read Car Questions.
OK, one more suggestion, but I’m going to quit making any until I see some feedback from the web lackeys.
The “first” “previous” “next” “last” buttons should be available at the top of the page as well as the bottom. I find I click into a discussion, scroll to the bottom to hit “last” so I can back up through the posts to find recent ones. I’ve already asked for some sort of new since last login indicator.
Is it true that the Toyota Prius use of nickel from the mine/smelter at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario has caused a ‘dead zone’ from acid rain, causing an area devoid of any life for miles around?
Also, that the environmental “cost” of producing and transporting the components for batteries (from Canada to Europe (I think) to China to Japan and once in the car – to the U.S.A. would make this one of the most expensive (environmentally speaking) cars to even consider???
It would help if replies were kept in chronological order. The arrow could be drawn from the reply replied to the end of the replies. It’s confusing to have a reply days out of order. ++++PS. I’m logged in, over there to the left (isn’t that what, “Welcome me_art 12!”, means?), but, I can’t SUBMIT until I agree to the Terms of Service. Why? +++ me_art12
You can’t be serious. This is an awful UI! It’s like something from back in the last century.
You offer only a simple list of just 10 discussions on a page and you expect that people are going to page forward 10 at a time? “Showing discussions 1 - 10 of 1677”. Let’s see that would be 168 pages to cover all your discussions. Whew! Did you design this way so that you could maximize your page views? This design is certainly not user friendly.
With this design, there isn’t any easy way to eyeball posts by subject or by author. I am not sure how I would find posts that I have replied to or created myself days or weeks later.
Your profile page seems designed to collect marketing information. It has no controls for # of discussions to list, getting email responses to discussions and so on.
Why would you go through all the trouble of trying to “reinvent the wheel” here when there is plenty of free or low cost forum software available that builds and manages forums in the format that most others use and that everyone is generally comfortable with?
Before you folks changed the Car Questions forum, I used to be able to highlight my question & the responses I got, & PRINT a copy so I could look at it later. But I can’t PRINT now–I get an error message.
If I used my Firefox browser instead of AOL’s, would that make a difference?
