Cheap Holiday Gas? I'm Paying $2.59/Regular Gallon! Can You Beat That?

"MSNBC is the liberal equivalent of FOX News. Don't use it for comparison, unless you intend to show that both sides of the political spectrum have their own mouthpieces."

Yup!
That’s why I refuse to watch either Fox (frequently referred to as Faux) News, or MSNBC.

Hello, there. Hope you’re all enjoying the holiday weekend. Could you please bring it back to cars? thanks.

Maybe we could kill 2 birds with one stone . . .

post pictures of bumpers stickers with the logo of our favorite news or radio station

Of course, to keep it car related, we’d have to show that it’s actually on a CAR or TRUCK bumper, and not just out in cyberspace

:smirk:

I have to conclude y’all actually enjoy making Carolyn’s job difficult…

;-]

Who, me . . . ?!

:innocent:

I’m not in the habit of taking pictures of other people’s car bumpers but it seems that the “Hillary for Prison 2016” bumper stickers are outnumbering the “Hillary” bumper stickers, and I live in a very liberal town.
Lots of Bernie Sanders bumper stickers though.

One of my favorites that I spotted on someone’s car said “my freedom is more important than your good idea”.

I still think Bernie Sanders should have the starring role in any upcoming reincarnation of the “Grumpy Old Men” franchise

He has lofty ideas and goals, but had he been elected president, I don’t think he could have lived up to his own hype

Neither could many/most of the other past presidents

when you promise too much, it just sets everybody up for big disappointment

And that statement applies to liberal AND conservative presidents

equal treatment for all

"@common sense answer
’Since you didn’t answer my question to my satisfaction, I’ll form my own opinions about your judgement of news stations, based on the information you’ve chose to share with us
Feel free to correct me at any time’ "

I answered. Did you read it?
“All these news show are basically entertainment. I would consider none totally honest or trustworthy.”

"What you do for physical fitness has nothing to do with answering my question
In fact, it’s known as dodging the question, or even changing the subject"

I’m not dodging anything. I answered the question. I was merely pointing out that rather than watch TV I do other things for entertainment and illustrated with examples. I simply don’t care too much what’s on TV, frankly, all 6 channels! I prefer other things whenever possible. What’s with all the aggression, db?

Bringing it back to cars and gas and commenting on my own discussion Cheap Holiday Gas? … Locally, my gas is still @ $2.59, but I was 50 miles away yesterday and got Shell for $2.39, minus $.03 with my wife’s Shell Rewards card, making it $2.36. Tomorrow I’m going a 100 miles away and gas is $2.22 there. Weird, eh?
CSA

I suppose I’m just a little testy when I hear people talking smack about CBS news, which I consider to be fairly trustworthy

I will admit that I also consider Fox to be extremely conservative, and MSNBC to be extremely liberal

At least that other station seems to not be on one extreme end or the other

Sorry if I got a little carried away and offended anybody :frowning:

Wouldn’t be the first time I did that

I might add I also wouldn’t be the first person on this website to do that . . . but I admit I’m frequently one of the guilty ones :smirk:

Using the Shell rewards card, does the discount bring it below Costco prices, for example?

Would it make more financial sense to use the new Costco visa card to buy gas at Costco, and get the rewards and what not . . . ?

It really doesn’t make sense for me to gas up at Costco, for reasons which I’ve already gone into

When traveling I used to carry a list of Costco locations of the southwest to ensure a fair price for fuel. There are no Costco stores in the rural far north, I suspect CSA would have to travel more than 100 miles to visit a Costco store.

My last tank cost $2.54/gallon for premium. Gasoline outside of the city in rural locations is a least 50 cents more per gallon as there is a greater cost of delivering the fuel by truck to the gas stations form a major city. Fuel is delivered to major cities via pipeline with a short delivery to stations by truck, rural areas pay the additional transportation charge. When traveling I try to avoid purchasing fuel when 100 miles from a major city.

"Using the Shell rewards card, does the discount bring it below Costco prices, for example? Would it make more financial sense to use the new Costco visa card to buy gas at Costco, and get the rewards and what not . . . ?"

One of the very appealing perks of the new Costco Visa card is that you get a 4% rebate on gas no matter where you buy it. Of course, it would be difficult to find Top Tier gas at lower prices than Costco charges–and by buying your Top Tier gas at Costco with that card it is truly a win-win situation–but even if you don’t buy your gas at Costco, getting a consistent 4% rebate on your gas purchases is a very nice thing.

Higher costs in rural areas are not wired at all. There is less competition, and prices can be higher. There are also fewer customers, and the gas station owner needs a higher fee to stay in business.

"Using the Shell rewards card, does the discount bring it below Costco prices, for example?"
That, I wouldn’t know. The rewards card (not a credit card) functions independently from the credit card. I believe my wife earns some incentive from the credit card company, too.

"There are no Costco stores in the rural far north, I suspect CSA would have to travel more than 100 miles to visit a Costco store."
Correct. However, Plans are in the works to begin building one 100 miles from me. I will probably shop there a few times per year.

MSNBC is not a very good example. How about CNN.

Sorry Fox is a complete joke. I don’t know how anyone can defend them as a news organization.

I use to have a Hess rewards card until they sold to Speedway. The speedway rewards card is no where near as good as the Hess. I know have a USAA AMX card. I get the same discount as my Hess card, but I can buy gas at any station I want. I still buy most of my gas as Speedway because it’s the closest station an prices are very competitive.

Took a trip to Chicago over the 4th weekend. Shocked to pay only 2.029 for gas in Normal, IL. That is by far the cheapest I have seen i in ILt. Surrounding areas were closer to 2.199. Started out in Kansas City at 1.96 for gas. Chicago prices started at 2.499.

My nearest small town charges $2.59/regular at all 6 gas stations (comprising many brands and always all the same price).

I drove just over 100 miles to a much larger city to watch the Navy Blue Angels air show (worth the trip every time I go… Unbelievable!!! ) on the 4th (last Monday) and gas there was $2.21/regular at most stations.

So that tends to support the theory about numbers of customers and competition.

However, I filled up with gas at a small town (very similar in size to my small town and no major “draw” for tourists) about half way home, and bought Shell for $2.11/regular ($2.08 using my wife’s rewards card)!

Just got back from Houston, most gas was $2.10 to $2.30, it’s $2.18 here. BUT, one QT station was $1.86, small town off the freeway, no idea why so low. Wish I had gassed up there!

There you go, CSA, it’s the exception that proves the rule…

I’m happy to see that six stations near my house are now down to $1.81 per gallon for regular.
Hopefully the price will still be at that low level when I go to fill-up tomorrow.
