Cheap Holiday Gas? I'm Paying $2.59/Regular Gallon! Can You Beat That?

@db4690
"@common sense answer 'If you believe CBS news is essentially BS . . . why do you watch it?'

I only get CBS, ABC, and NBC, definitely all the same BS.
I watch primarily for entertainment and some good laughs.

Please answer these questions

Do you consider Fox news to be good, trustworthy, honest, etc. ?

Yes or no will do, thank you

BTW . . . even though I told you my opinions about Fox news, I don’t watch it for entertainment. I can get my laughs and entertainment doing other things. I don’t watch it at all

The gas in my area is around $2.10 right now. My Kroger card with .20 cents off gets that down to $1.90.

The unfortunate part of a gas tax is the lower your salary the more it impacts your budget.

In the case of gasoline, I think a flat usage tax is appropriate. If you use the roads more, you should pay more for the privilege. A progressive tax makes less sense in this case. I drive 108 miles commuting 5 days a week. I’m not trying to pawn off my responsibility for road repairs to anyone else.

At some point, we will need a road tax for electric vehicles. There aren’t enough to of them to have that tax right now. I expect it will be an RFID license tag or something similar, and we will get a bill for road use similar to the EasyPass system. Maybe a gasoline tax will be eclipsed by this system eventually.

$2.49 is the cheapest in my area if you pay cash, or I believe the debit/credit price was 10 cents more per gallon when I passed that station last night.

$2.39 her, no ethanol free regular available. About 8 miles away there is a station that I can get ethanol free 91 octane for $2.99.

Yes!

I would be in favor or a mileage based system provided that it replaced the gas tax and the rate was indexed to vehicle weight, i.e. motorcycles pay less per mile than small cars and small cars pay less than large cars and large cars pay less than 18-wheelers.

I have a tee-shirt I wear which says - “Do You Want the Truth? Of Fox News?”

Fox Entertainment is a complete joke. They even took the stance in a trial in Florida that they can lie because they are an entertainment company.

There are so many YouTube videos of Fox lying you’d have to spend hours and hours binge watching to see them all. But since most people who watch Fox entertainment have been brainwashed by them to stay away from other News organizations
those people will never know how much Fox actually lies.

I just had a conversation with a neighbor who’s a fox news junky. He was complaining how Fox’s new Foreign terrorist correspondent wasn’t as good as the one from a few years ago. He didn’t realize that Fox’s old Terrorist correspondent who was an Ex-CIA agent - was arrested for trying to pass himself off as an Ex-CIA agent. Not only wasn’t he ever in the CIA, but he never had any combat experience or any experience what-so-ever with terrorists. And he was Fox’s news expert for YEARS. AND Fox knew about it for YEARS. That’s the level of news you get from Fox.

Okay. I will.

"Do you consider Fox news to be good, trustworthy, honest, etc. ?"
I have no opinion on that. Let me explain
I live in the woods on a large lake. I have never had satellite, internet, or cable TV access. I have always had only 4 channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS) of over-the-air TV reception and not a constantly reliable signal. Since the big digital TV change a few years ago, I bought a different indoor antenna and now receive 6 channels, most of the time (varies with weather and seasons). The 2 extras I picked up are “Comet” (24 hour Walker Texas Ranger shows for a while and now old Horror movies, instead) and one more PBS show (mostly shows showing how to fry onions, paint, and sew).

I have seen “Fox” news if somebody has it on while I wait in a doctor waiting room. It looks basically like the same stuff that’s on other news show, different commentators. All these news show are basically entertainment. I would consider none totally honest or trustworthy. They all spin and report only part of stories and neglect important information.

I don’t watch much TV. There is far more bad than good on it. I like Jeopardy, Ninja Warriors, and sometimes Antique Road Show and This Old House.

When I’m not on Car Talk, I’m active. Yesterday I ran The Black Mountain Blast, a 5k+ (3.6 miles) in hilly terrain through the woods at 8:00 a.m. and later biked 11 miles. Today I kayaked (saw some loons and talked to folks fishing), for 45 minutes, several miles and did strength training and was done by 8:30 a.m. I am going to change coolant on my daughter’s car (home from college) and later ride one of my bicycles. I’m on 3 golf leagues (I always walk/run).

“Yes or no will do, thank you”
Sorry, I had no simple Yes or No answer. I hope this works for you. You’re welcome.

I went to YouTube and did a search for “FOX News lies”, only instead of typing in “FOX”, I typed in “NBC” and guess what, there were so many videos that it would have taken hours to watch it all.

I take it you didn’t actually see any of the stories. Most were about their Anchor Lying about his helicopter crash
and then they FIRED him for it. A good portion was just OPINION. Another set were people they were interviewing who were lying. But yes all news networks have lied
but Fox has taken to a whole other level
Not just lying
but actually reporting news that never happened.

That’s why you should watch multiple news outlets. But there’s a good number of Fox entertainment listeners who only listen to Fox
those people are really misinformed.

Wasn’t a New York Times reporter also caught making up news?

Wasn't a New York Times reporter also caught making up news?

Yup
and he was FIRED
Not promoted or given a raise at Fox because that lie increased their rating for the show.

Watch this unedited smart phone video of one of Romney’s speeches and the selectively edited version shown by MSNBC. Was anyone fired for it?

FOX no! Stuff gets distorted to maximize the sensational impact, much like the British tabloids where Rupert Murdoch makes most of his money. This tycoon makes Donald Trump look like a boy scout. His company has been convicted of wiretapping and his editor in chief has also been convicted of obtaining private information fraudulently.

Some consider Trump “amoral”; Rupert Murdoch actually IS without any scruples whatsoever.

You don’t even need to “tell a lie” in order to lie. Advertising is rife with true but misleading claims. For example, one could claim “OUR canned tomatoes contain no preservatives”, what is left unsaid was that canned tomatoes don’t need preservatives and nobody else adds them either.
A classic one from the 1980’s. This is a paraphrase rather than a direct quote because I can’t remember the exact quote. Harley Davidson: “the (premium model) Harley Davidson can accelerate from 40 to 60 mph in xxx seconds
(dramatic pause)
while carrying a passenger and without downshifting”. I’m sure that ad was factual, but, do you really think a Honda Goldwing can’t do that also, if not even faster?

MSNBC is the liberal equivalent of FOX News. Don’t use it for comparison, unless you intend to show that both sides of the political spectrum have their own mouthpieces.

Since you didn’t answer my question to my satisfaction, I’ll form my own opinions about your judgement of news stations, based on the information you’ve chose to share with us

Feel free to correct me at any time

You yourself said CBS put the BS in news, or something to that effect

You said you watch it for entertainment purposes

Clearly anybody saying that dos NOT consider CBS news to be trustworthy

What you do for physical fitness has nothing to do with answering my question

In fact, it’s known as dodging the question, or even changing the subject

You’re welcome
