Changing Tranny Fluid

87 Integra, 147k

The tranny was changed with a used one at 140k, 2.5 yrs ago.

I check the fluid - its still clean and red in color - no sign of anything undesirable.

Manual states change every 2yrs or 30k miles.

Should I change it or leave it for some more time, say a yr?

You’re past the time interval, so I’d go ahead and change the fluid out. No real reason to put it off.

I think on that one there is a drain plug and only takes about 4 quarts. About a ten minute job. Why push it?

Here’s what happens with tranny fluid. If you wait ‘till it looks like it needs changin’, it’s usually too late.

You want to change it while it is still good. Once you get a change of color or odor, it means damage has been done. Don’t cheap out on this one. Putting it off can be expensive.

I’ll add a recommendation to stop at the Acura dealer and spend the few extra bucks to make sure the tranny fluid is the correct stuff. Put the wrong stuff on and you are in deep doo-doo.
