Back to the 50s in St. Paul this weekend

Dang, a guy has shots in his spine, comes home and takes a nap and misses all the fun…

Basically tell a guy at a car show that he missed a spot on his truck would be about the same as telling him his wife was very pretty, but needed a nose job…

A car show has some unwritten rules, a Gentleman’s Etiquette if you will and you just showed that you are clueless to that matter… There are just some things you don’t say…

Now if it was up for sale and you were negotiating on the price, then yeah, if it is overpriced point it out… but not when the guy is proud of his vehicle and just wanting people to appreciate his hard work (or paycheck)…

Trust me, you can crawl all over my hot rod and you are not going to tell me anything new about it…

That sounds painful but only for a little while I guess. At least you can’t see the needle unless they make you look at the movie during.

I can’t reply to that without it getting banned for being off topic…

Yes, it is painful, and I will be very sore for 3-4 days… But on a good note, I jammed out to my music taste in the Infinity (car related) with a killer Boss system… I can only imagine what one sounds like in the newer vehicles with a high end factory sound systems…

+1
When go to the local Cruise-In Car Show, I keep my hands folded behind my back as I walk around the cars on display. Some owners get very nervous at the prospect of somebody touching their expensively-restored car, and I don’t want them to get apprehensive from my close inspection.

My comments to car owners are usually something along the lines of… (pick one or more) very nice car… I had one and it was a really great car… my father/uncle/cousin/neighbor had one.

If I spot a flaw, I say NOTHING about it.

I don’t know how you addressed the issue, but if you had referred to your truck and not his, it might have gone down better. You might have said that you found rust in certain difficult to access areas and how you dealt with them then ask how he solved those problems. That offers him an out if he doesn’t want to discuss it with you and still alerts him to the issues.

Email it to an account that you have access to on the computer you access Car Talk from, then attach it to a post. I’d like to see the Ford too.

Here is one cartoonist’s take on the importance of NOT saying something negative or critical:

Good point, & actually that’s how the conversation went, mostly focused on my own experience w/t the problem. I did feel I had to mention that if the rust underneath the paint (on the show truck) progressed, it could be a future safety issue.

You just kept digging that hole…

What hole are you referring to?

You point out he had a bad restoration, that he missed seeing the rust, and then you let him know his oversights could kill somebody. That hole.

The man had completed restoration of the exterior of the body, now you want to teach him how to sand blast, fill, sand and paint the engine bay. Nobody likes a critic.

It worked! I took this snapshot yesterday.

It really is not worth it. I got it to e mail but can’t do a simple copy paste. Maybe I’ll be clearer some other time.

Save the attached photo to your PC and then upload it to your Car Talk post like any other attachment you make. Don’t sweat it if this is your first time. Even at our age there are still firsts and sometimes we need a little help.

I just use the snip tool on Widows and paste it into my post.

That sounds painful

I don’t even know what a snip tool is on windows…

Hit the Windows button/shift/S, then highlight what you want to ‘snip’. Click inside your post, then paste. It won’t hurt one bit!

Testing…

Thank you!!!
