I now get Buick ads full screen, full volume, without clicking on anything. One just took over my screen as I was trying to post this! @cdaquila , or anyone else, what’s up??

Yes, this new “feature” essentially makes this site unusable. If they are trying to kill Car Talk, the site managers are doing an excellent job.
Same here. Been happening for a week or two, but seems notably worse today. clicking the browser’s back arrow seems to make it go away temporarily.
Same here. You’d think the marketing morons would finally figure out that this stuff is a waste of money. Of course that’s how they get paid by convincing the corporate morons that it works.
Some years ago in frustration with the site, an enterprising woman developed a new site called chat house. It was quite popular with all the former car talk people. Of course over time she died, others took over, turned it into an npr clientele site, and then the last guy was killed in a car accident near St. Louis. Then went dark with no one left. Maybe some of you remember.
If a guy named bicycle bill starts posting here, run. The end is near. Until then hang on.
There was also a pretty much mechanic only site that popped up and pretty much went nowhere. Mechanics talking to other mechanics doesn’t get much interest. Just a warning to you folks that want to hear only from pros.
I"ve gotten no ads like that. Firefox with an ad blocker.
But other minor weird things continue.

Same, not one single add or pop up since Sept when I went to DDG only for this one site…

The woodworker site I was on imploded over night. It was a great place with guys and gals from all over the world, even Japan. Always showing new projects and giving advice. Never bothered to record their names so outside of a few they were all gone in a puff of smoke.

I should clarify my earlier comment. I haven’t gotten any ads on this site since I installed DDG on my laptop.
However, when I occasionally log onto this site via my phone, those Buick ads were incredibly intrusive (full screen and recurring constantly). I guess that I should also install DDG on my phone.

No longer happening (for now). I use DDG on my phone, hadn’t loaded it on my laptop, could put up with the site’s issues up until Buick ads took the screen repeatedly the last few days.
Those of you still getting ads on websites. You’re not listening! Use an ad blocker. Many internet gurus recommend uBlock Origin but there are others.
I use Firefox browser with uBlock. No ads.

Maybe good advice but this is the only site that I get all this nonsense. I don’t see any reason to change anything for one site that has gone nuts.
Bing, just try uBlock Origin. It’s an extension of your browser. If it doesn’t work just remove it.

With The problems that this site has, the regulars here can use DDG or UBlock Origin or whatever else. but the people coming here for help are probably not going to go through the trouble of doing it. they will probably just go to another site that works correctly.

I would suggest many/most people these days use uBlock or another ad blocker for all their web surfing. If you don’t you’re in the minority.
