What Does Trim Mean wrt Toyota Warranty

The USB cover broke off on my still under warranty Toyota Venza. The dealer says it’s not covered because it is “trim”. It’s true that “trim” is not covered under warranty. But what is “trim”? Whatever the dealer wants it to be? Hardly an unbiased observer.

Trim are components that protect or enhance the look of the vehicle. This can be on the inside of the vehicle or outside.

The plastic console latch broke on my Acura rdx. I ordered a replacement
Latch for $8 plus $12 shipping from bernardi and installed it myself. That would be trim. The whole cover was $500. So see if you can just get the. Part.

Trim, either interior or exterior, are pieces that are added to components to make them look finished or complete. For example the plastic piece that runs around the base of the driver’s seat is trim. The Toyota symbol on your steering wheel is trim. Your seat will still work if that plastic piece is cracked. You could still steer the car if the emblem in the middle of your steering wheel falls off. Your USB port still functions normally.

You have trim on the walls around the doors in your house. Same idea. It’s there to make it look finished, but it has no effect on whether the door opens and closes.

The USB port cover is manipulated and Toyota has no idea how you handle it. IMO the dealer is required by Toyota to assume rough handling, thus the denial.
