We have a 2000 Lexus RX 300

The moonroof is stuck in the tilt position and won’t close. Is there anything we can do short of having the headliner removed for diagnostics?

Check the fuse.

Peek in your owners manual and pray to your favorite diety that your moonroof has a manual backup. My old 1995 Civic you could use a screw driver or cordless power drill with screw bit to close it manually if motor failed.

If there is a manual method of closing the moonroof on this model, there should be a plastic plug covering the hole where the appropriate tool is inserted. On some cars, a very large Hex Key is supplied in the tool kit, and this is what is used to close the roof. Check both the Owner’s Manual and the tool kit.
