1999 Toyota 4runner sr5 4wd, 220,000 miles.
car begins to vibrate at around 55-70 mph,
worst at about 62-63 mph, steering wheel shakes. Can feel the vibration while holding the 4wd shifter, vibrations seem less when in 4wd. can feel the vibrations throughout the whole car. vibrations seem to smooth out the longer you drive. 2 different tire types on back and front, car aligned recentley, tires are not a great brand. any thoughts besides 4 new tires? (will be doing that very soon anyway). thanks!
May not be the tires, could be something like a drive shaft. What if you are at 65-70 mph and put the car into Neutral. Does vibration go away?
Have the tires been balanced? Are they exactly the same diameter? Shouldn’t mix different tires with 4WD.
Hey thanks for the response…tires are all the same size and diameter…we will try putting the car in neutral. if the shaking stops when the car is in neutral, does that sway the problem towards the tires or the drive shaft? Thanks again.

But have you checked tyre to tyre to make sure one or more may be more worn than the others.
tested the neutral thing, turns out the vibrations and shakes are still the same with the car in neutral at 60-70.
i havent really checked if one is really worn more than the others, but could that really make the car vibrate this much?
