how do you change the transmission fluid in a 2006 hyundai elantra? also transmission fluid, SP-III, Diamond ATF II, Dextron II? what do these all mean and which is the right one for the hyundai?
Go get a $20 repair manual from an auto parts store. Its the best thing to have on hand for basic maintenance procedures.
Use your owner’s manual for the fluid specifications, though it will also be in a repair manual. The fluid specs do get upgraded over time, so sometimes you move to the most recent version of what the manual calls for. (E.g. you can’t get Dexron II or even Dexron III anymore. The only thing licensed is Dexron VI). When you come across a more recent fluid spec it will tell you what NOT to use it in. (E.g. I have a car that called for Mercon when it was made. The latest Mercon spec is Mercon V. But there is now also a Mercon SP. The Mercon SP clearly says NOT to use it where Mercon or Mercon V are called for).
