Sorry for the extra thread started outside of this one. Shop called and said they cannot rebuild. The 'hard parts' are blown. They can get a transmission from a car in a junkyard that had 15K miles. Is it wise to get a used transmission? The used will cost about $2,200 and a new would cost over $3,000.
I did call the dealer to run the situation by them and the manager said that I could have done more damage in just driving the car to the shop after after the tranny slipped. I was on a major highway and put the car in an alternate drive gear to accelerate enough to get me to a shop that I had looked up on this site. (3 to 5 miles away). The car started hesitating at about 40 mph a few weeks ago but the problem wasn't consistent. I was going to get the car to an independent mechanic but apparently not soon enough.
