Yep, there are many folks out there that publish detailed descriptions of why oil prices have changed. Sometimes they’re right, but often they just have some kind of ax to grind. They then go on to make forecasts. Those have no more chance of being correct than a random guess.
Well thankfully we have people to correct all this disinformation out there. Things are so good, maybe it’s time to refill the strategic oil reserve before a national emergency. You guys missed the part about diesel prices though that tends to increase prices for everything that is purchased. Demand is sure to fall there too though for some strange reason.
NPR, PBS, Science, Science News, JAMA, NE Journal of Medicine, Lancet, NY Times, LA Times are pretty good sources; i.e. well known and refereed sources that have a long-running reputation to uphold, when there are conflicting claims.
I prefer Janet yellen for up to date economic information. If folks would just quit buying so many bbq grills, everything would be better.
Apologies. I have been gone for a few days due to my day job. I deleted a whole bunch of stuff.
@bing again, knock it off. And it’s got nothing to do with silencing your opinions. There are tons of places online to talk about that stuff. Thank you.
Gas is $2.89 for E10 regular at Costco today.
$3.03 this morning at my local Costco station.
$2.899 at my Costco today.
$2.48 at Quick Trip.
Hey folks, those might be great prices but as the the old saying goes, “Where’s Waldo?”
My Costco gas is $2.64 for Regular and $3.24 for Premium in Newport News, VA…
Hurry up, the pumps close at 8:30PM, in 2-1/2 hours… See ya there…
It’s about $3.85 here in San Jose. Down quite a bit in the last month or two.
$2.89-$3.11 in sterling VA
$2.89 at Costco in Elkridge, MD.
$2.95 at Costco in North Brunswick, NJ.
$2.87 Costco Sterling VA.
$2.87 COSTCO Elkridge, MD.
Gas related but not the broken record on lower costs. I stopped for gas somewhere in wis or I’ll. Wind blowing, freezing cold. The pump was so slow that I had two gallons in about five minutes so quit. I was afraid of pumping junk to clog my filters. Anyone else have that experience?
Back in 1981 with my new diesel I had a slow pump at a truck stop, and it was a slow hundred mile drive home with my filter plugged. Finally had to drop and empty the tank of all the crap that was in it. So I have been a little gun shy of slow pumps.
Just a public service announcement. Diesel is still high which is used to deliver your groceries and Amazon packages.
Costco in Newport News VA…
Regular – $2.739 Premium – $3.229
Kroger Supermarket service station in York County VA
Diesel – $4.79 And my truck’s 42 gallon fuel tank was thirsty… $150 for just about 32-gallons…
Reminder: Gas in July 2008 was $4.10, adjusted for inflation $5.44/gal.
How do you judge Inflation? I use commodities that are relatively unchanged from then to now, for instance: Gasoline, Milk, Bread, etc… You cannot use cars, TVs, clothing, electronics, etc… Too many changes or innovations…
Back in July 2008, I was buying either Premium or Diesel. Then Premium was $4.149 a gallon and Diesel was $4.299 a gallon in Virginia (I keep gas logs, not to be confused with the “gas logs” in the fireplace…LoL…).
When I first started driving in 1966, the minimum wage was $1.25 an hour and I paid about 25 cents ($0.249) a gallon. That means I had to work my minimum wage job (Stock Boy – F.W. Woolworths) for 11-minutes and 57-seconds to buy one gallon or gasoline.
So, back then, I could buy 5.02 Gallons of gas for an hours work.
According to the Inflations Calculator, my $1.25 is now worth $11.55 today.
The minimum wage in Virginia is $11.00 today, but will increase to $12.00 January 1st. So, it I was still working at Woolworths for minimum wage, and gasoline were $2.739 a gallon, I would have to work 14-miutes and 27-seconds…
But come January 1st, I would jump to $12.00 an hour and I would have to work 13-minutes and 42-seconds for that gallon of gas…
Today, or rather in a couple of days, I will be able to buy 4.38 gallons of gas for an hours work.
That is how I judge Inflation… Actual buying power then and now…
