Temporary heart attack

Ford Taurus sel 2000.

Driving the engine suddenly dies. Attempting to restart the engine will start may cough a couple times, but then it runs fine. This happened a couple times and of course at the worst possible place.

Any ideas?

Does the check engine light come on when this happens?

No OBD II is clear

Is the maintenance up to date? Spark plugs, fuel filter, etc.?

yes

I would have the fuel pump and all of its power components tested as well as the ignition module.

If you’re handy and you have one, hook up a fuel pressure gauge and tape it outside of the windshield. Have a passenger keep an eye on it as you drive. If the fuel pressure stays good when you stall then you can pretty much eliminate the fuel pump or its circuits as the problem.
