Telluride Headlight problem

My wife was set on getting a Telluride, and thanks to my daughter wrecking her car earlier this year, my wife got a 2022 Telluride and gave my daughter her car. The Telluride has been having a quirk in that upon starting the car, it will have a message on the display of a headlight out. The light and headlight will be out for a few minutes to seconds and then come back on by itself. Is this a headlight issue or an electrical short? I have also noticed the automatic dimming headlight system (AFS i think it’s called) doesn’t work even though the light is on the dash showing it is. I don’t know if this is related or not, but seems like one may be causing the other.

It may be an indication of a problem with the BCM.

I’d consider replacing the headlight and/or bulb at this point. Not sure what all is involved on that on a Telluride.

The first step I would suggest is to measure the voltage on the lamp socket when it’s not on and it should be. If they are HID, this is a bit more risky for a novice but conventional or LED lamps pretty straightforward. If there’s voltage, then check ground continuity with power off. Both good? It’s a lamp issue. No voltage and ground is good, follow the source. I’ve seen separate relays for right & left headlamps…

Not knowing the trim level (sub model) I looked up 2 trim levels one being the SX (top I think) and they both showed 9005 headlamp bulbs, and labor is just 0.3 (18 minutes) for one side and 0.5 for both sides, so not hard at all…

At 1st I thought this sounded like an igniter for the HID system, but that is out the door now… lol

Check your battery cable terminal ends and wires for corrosion and make sure you can not twist the cables by hand any…
If all good and clean, then it kinda sounds like what Tester posted…

On a different note, doesn’t it have a warranty on it?? Like a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty?? Have you checked the dealer yet??

You beat me to it, Dave.

There is likely a failing halogen bulb as shown on the warning display, don’t replace any computers before checking the basics.

It wouldn’t be unusable for a 4-year-old vehicle to have more than 60,000 miles.

If the vehicle has less than 60,000 miles, LED headlamps would be covered by the warranty, but halogen bulbs are not:
