I was driving home and saw an Audi A8 stopped in a work zone. It had blue and red LED flashing lights in the rear window. Being an A8, I guessed that someone had customized his car, especially since it had a citizen license plate.
A couple weeks later I saw a Ford Escape with the same blue and red flashing lights and a citizens license plate. He had stopped a car and was clearly a police vehicle. I wonder who the lucky cop is that gets to drive the A8? Must be nice!
I could be wrong, but seem to remember in some areas confiscated vehicles could be used by law enforcement. Had a friend who is a cop, she wanted one of the big SUVs, I told her just pull over every Escalade with aftermarket rims, sooner or later she would find drugs and could confiscate the vehicle.
Yep, we have plenty of “undercover” Police vehicles in my area/middle TN, from my understanding they are (mostly anyway) confiscated from drug seizures and whatnots…
In the Nashville area, I have seen them used a lot at road construction areas just for the blue lights and a LEO presence, but have seen the same vehicles used in traffic stops…
In my county, I just see them mainly used to catch speeders and road closures for parades and stuff…
Back in the mid-60s, my local County Police seized a yellow 1960 Ford Galaxie convertible, and they used it to apprehend speeders. It wasn’t this one, but it looked identical.
