Stealth Police Cars

In the 60s there were advertisements for kits to install Corvair engines in VW vans. They needed it. A friend had an early 70s VW Westfalia, we drove it from Ogden Utah to Montana to go fishing. I drove it through the Idaho stretch, pedal to the floor, barely made the speed limit.

We had a Westfalia van like the one pictured . . . I remember it being green

Anyways, my dad always said it was underpowered

Well . . . as I’ve already mentioned before . . . On one of our family trips, we were going up a fairly steep hill

My dad was flooring it and the van couldn’t keep up with traffic and was basically a road hazard

The engine EXPLODED

He swore off VW at that point

He started buying Toyotas and never looked back

Not your fathers air cooled low power VW engine anymore… Some of these engines are cranking out some big HP…

Kinda cool actually. Yet my favorite no marks remains detective Crown Vic, and will forever be.
