My wife’s 05 Camry when starting revs up to 2200 rpm for 4 seconds or so: then drops down around 8-900. Should I be concerned ? if so, is it adjustable ?..I dont like to rev my engine for at least 45 seconds…Mike
2200 does sound a bit high. They usually rev to around 1500 to get the oil moving. I doubt that it will harm the engine…I think the oil-drains-out-and-all-the-wear-happens-at-startup thing is more myth than reality (oil does not completely drain off of anything), but I would have it checked. Have you asked the folks at the toyota service department?
I’d clean the idle air control valve and throttle body.
