Removal tool for mid-2000 Ford/Mercury rear view mirrors?

I recently had to remove a rear view mirror from a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, and it is a royal pain to do so. I ended up accidentally removing the mirror mount (with the adhesive) from the windshield, which was OK since the car was in a junkyard, but is there a special tool/method for compressing the clip and/or sliding the mirror off?

The screwdriver method doesn’t work very well.

Yes.

There are two special tools to remove/install the rear view mirror.

Thanks. Too bad they’re $50+ on eBay.

Yeah…

And how many Ford rear view mirrors are you going to replace?
