Low idle / stalls at traffic lights

My 1999 Honda CRV stalles when I come to a stop sign or red traffic light. The idle RPM is low, looks like less than 500 RPM but is hard to read on the low end of the RPM indicator. Turning on the A/C helps but does not fix problem. Help.

The problem might be in the Idle Air Control circuit.

There’s a component on the throttle body called the Idle Air Control valve or the IAC. The IAC allows air into the engine so the engine is able to idle anytime the throttle is released. If this IAC valve becomes restricted with deposits it can prevent air from entering the engine at idle and the engine stalls.

You can try removing the IAC valve and clean it along with the throttle body air bleed port to see if this fixes the problem. If not, then the IAC valve may need replacing.
