Is this an average price for the work that has been done?

I don’t remember the exact details but years ago there was a discussion asking people for their credentials and what qualifications they had . Some of those were so fictional it was comical.

I have a great deal of respect for the Pros in this forum. But I’ve met a few so-called “Pros” that I wouldn’t let add air to my tires. I’ve seen many people call themselves mechanics and their only wrenching job is working doing oil changes and tire rotations.

I would be willing to bet that some of us pros on here can tell pretty fast who is who in a short time, you have to have a panel of members to agree on ranks… a new member would have to have X post count and or X amount of time on here before they were given a rank… You start off as a newbie and prof your way up… But you would need humans running the forum in order to do it, and well, that ain’t happening, we have two mods and no admin, so it would not work anyway… but like I said, it would be nice anyway…

You know…some people work on cars, some people fix them. :grinning:

If it involves a repair I usually identify myself as a consumer and non mechanic. I also have commented on who should be listened to among the commenters. Whatever.

I’m against elitism in all its forms. It doesn’t help IMO because it might stifle a discussion and could be used to belittle someone with fewer wrenches. I’m not a professional auto mechanic and I’d still like to comment on issues that I may have knowledge of anyway. Those of you that are pros do a pretty good job of correcting misdiagnoses as it is. There are a few DIYers here that should get 5 wrenches too, except that’s elitism and I’m not in favor of their wrenches either.

Is there a specific reason you don’t want posters with car-questions to use that feature? B/c otherwise it seems pretty simple for the question asker to just ignore if they don’t want to do it.

Banging head against wall . . .

Because it is a waste of time ! How many people do you need to tell you to stop ? If they see the search symbol and want to use it fine .

But you keep saying that like it will really help and it doesn’t . Give up you are out numbered on this subject.

I think there are two complaints.

  1. Blame the manufacturer. It looks like those actuators failures are very common.
  2. If they are bad, why did the mechanic install an expensive OEM part?
