2016 Malibu Limited does not have a
compact spare tire. What size would I
look for at a junk yard?

The junk yard can answer that question for you . Or you can order new from GM at a very high cost. Also there is that thing called Google.

Do you mean it’s missing, or there never was one?

Some cars come with a full sized spare, some with a compact spare, some with none at all.

Does your trunk even have a space for a compact spare tire?

… and is there a hold-down for a spare tire?
Without a hold-down for that tire, it would become an unguided missile in the event of a collision, and that could endanger the people in the back seat.
