I hope everyone gets a free fire extinguisher, and free training on how to use it properly, which in most cases is more important than the fire extingurisher itself.

And don’t panic, can’t stress that enough… You have to be able to think through what you are doing… No I am not a Fireman nor have I been trained by or as one… But I don’t panic… Yes I have put out my own housefire (before the fire department, that was one mile from my house at the time, got there) as well as multiple vehicles that others have caught on fire over the years…

How can the training be more important than the extinguisher? If you don’t have one, how does the training help?

If they don’t use the extinguisher properly they:

  1. Use up a perfectly good extinguisher in addition to letting let the car burn up, making it worse.
  2. They post a video of how to improperly use the extinguisher on youtube to teach others badly.
  3. They won’t know how to use someone else’s extinguisher if there happens to be one near by.
  4. They delay calling for help while they waste time spraying the top of the fire or at a closed car hood to make the flames go away while the fire comes right back again.
  5. They run around and take every extinguisher available and use it up spraying the top of the fire or at a closed car hood. When a properly trained person shows up, all the extinguishers are now spent and the fire is just as bad as it was.
