How else is one to learn theffectiveness of their spoiler?

Licenses? We don’eed no stinkin’ licenses.

Then he would be like many others drive weather they have a license or not.

For the umpteenth time, on the Prius it’s for economy.

“ The goal of many spoilers used in passenger vehicles is to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency.[3] Passenger vehicles can be equipped with front and rear spoilers. Front spoilers, found beneath the bumper, are mainly used to decrease the air going underneath the vehicle to reduce the drag coefficient and lift.

Sports cars are most commonly seen with front and rear spoilers. Even though these vehicles typically have a more rigid chassis and a stiffer suspension to aid in high-speed maneuverability, a spoiler can still be beneficial. This is because many cars have a relatively steep downward angle going from the rear edge of the roof down to the vehicle’s trunk or tail, which may cause airflow separation. The flow of air becomes turbulent, and a low-pressure zone is created, increasing drag and instability (see Bernoulli effect). Adding a rear spoiler could be considered to make the air “see” a longer, gentler slope from the roof to the spoiler, which helps to delay flow separation and the higher pressure in front of the spoiler can help reduce the lift on the car by creating downforce[citation needed]. This may reduce drag in certain instances and generally increase high-speed stability due to the reduced rear lift.”

Should be calledrag reducers
Or laminar airflow aids

Well, at least I said it

Unfortunately, we can’t tear the key(s) out of his hands

I dunno…“Laminar Airflow Aid Sport” just doesn’t have the same ring to it that “Spoiler Sport” does.

If Elon Musk were to offer a Tesla EV van, it would be as hideous as that “thing”

I’ve seen a few Cybertrucks in person now and also seen them at the Petersen automotive museum and they’re even more hideous up close :face_vomiting:

In terms of sheer ugliness, the Cybertruck might give the Pontiac Aztek a run for the money

The 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 came with a rear spoiler on the tailgate. The 2500 and 3500 are not included in CAFE ratings and did not have spoilers.

Sad but true.

I have not seen the Cybertruck it must be bad to give the aztek a run for the money.

The Honda Civic Type R is a front-wheel-drive car with a rear wing spoiler for added downforce and stability.

Aftermarket?

(I should attach a leading edge spoiler on the light bar to force the RH350h down at 130 mph.)

Here in Hampton Roads, Virginia, we have the Langley Speedway, located in Hampton, Virginia. Langley Speedway is a paved short track measuring 4/10 mile in length. The Speedway is NASCAR-sanctioned racetrack that hosts Whelen All-American series races, go-carts & local events.

One of their features is this “School Bus” that they take kids on around the race track.

I am sure that they need that Spoiler, Air Dam on the roof as they race around the track at break-neck speeds that exceed 20-MPH to keep the rear ends from fish-tailing out of control… L  L . . .

I’ve never spent any time examining it but from the angle of the photo, that “spoiler” looks more like a “truck-bed-line” that they tossed up on the roof and said, “Cool…”

Factory equipped, from the Honda new vehicle site.

It is a mock-up of an Outlaw wing, it is being used for advertising space.

With the spoiler in the rear, as above, its drag is causing a lever action on the rear axle to pivothe front up.
At least my Whelen Light Bar Spoiler™, centered over the B pillar, is forcing the whole vehicle down.

This posting is for fun, so don’t get your patties out of shape, it’s all for yucks…

Here are the Langley Speedway, there was the “plan” to have the school buses from the various school districts race on a closed course, They would start the race with a Le Mans Start (also called the “Land Rush Start, " where the drivers would have to race across the track and jump into their bus, start the bus and take off to start the race…”

Right away problems started when many of the drivers jumped into the wrong bus as only the Bus Number is visible on the front and the school’s districts’ name is printed on the side, out of sight…

Next the drivers complained that many of the drivers are senior citizens who have bad hips and weak knees and the Le Mans Start favored the younger set. And then there were the female drivers who might be pregnant and it would be wholly unfair to them as it takes longer to fit the seat belt…

Then it was suggested that the buses also carry loads of kids and like a Rood Rally, the buses must not speed, and must stop to take on and let off the kids… and the best time would be the buses that could complete the course in the closest to the allotted time. Points would be taken away for speeding, missing kids, dropping kids at the wrong stop, or yelling at the kids to sit down and shut up… L  L . . .

End of Yucks…

I personally like the Day of Destruction Appliance Race (for real…). This race involves each car loading an assortment of appliances on the car. Each round they add one more. Car with the most appliances still loaded at the end wins. Appliances includes a refrigerator, stove, washer and dryer and more.
$300 to the winner.

And the best part, admission to the track is from $7 to $10 for adults… Military and senior discounts apply. Parking is free and the Corn Dogs are to die for…

Just t set the record straight, spoilers do NOT create downforce. Anyone who is a pilot or ever worked on aircraft should know this. Wings can create downforce but spoilers only spoil lift. On an aircraft, spoilers are located on top of the wings to reduce lift, usually during the final stages of landing.

Nascar race cars have wings in the back to create downforce, but also have spoilers in the roofs that pop up to reduce lifting effects to vehicles that have lost contact with the surface of the earth, or in danger of losing contact.

The tail at the end of the trunk or roof of a car is called a kammback named after aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm and is there to reduce drag. It is commonly called a spoiler but it is technically not either a spoiler or wing.

Correct. But who calls them wings?
Inverted airfoilshould not be called wings. Wings implies lift.

I like it because it’s ugly.

A reciprocating engine cannot beat electric motors in a drag race.
But what is Ford’s range compared to Tesla’s range?
Hauling capacity? Hauling weight?
