Hot Weather Noises

If I drive my 2002 Ford Escape in hot weather, the steering wheel starts to make noises as if it’s scraping something if I turn the wheel even a little bit. I don’t notice the sounds when I drive around in average temperatures of 70 or below. It happens more frequently if it’s a hot day. What’s going on?

My guess: The clock spring needs lubricating.

I wasn’t aware that a clock spring could be lubricated.
Are you sure about your advice?

I think the temps may be a misnomer. Check your belts, and the tensioners.

These noises only appear whenever I am driving around in very warm weather, such as 80 degrees or more? Otherwise, I wouldn’t even notice these sounds.
