Gasoline Prices

Supply issues might get worse. It seems likely that OPEC won’t increase production. They said they wouldn’t for several years, and they still might not despite the war in Ukraine. I can’t imagine you are ignoring Covid-19’s effect on gasoline sales. If almost no one was driving to work, then very few of us were buying gasoline. I usually drove only once per week for several months to pick up carry out dinner on Fridays. On the rare occasions I had to go to work, the roads were empty.

I really do not suspect MobilExxon, She’ll, or any other company raising pump prices while making record profits each year of hating fossil fuels. It is simply economics, when price per barrel is low, they don’t drill and shut down wells that produce oil at or below selling price.
Anyway, pump prices seem to have temporarily stabilized, even dropped a few Pennie’s at some stations.

Yep, and it’s the ‘don’t drill’ that has set back US oil production. Few wells get shut in because of price. Active rig count has been increasing steadily, but there are shortages limiting how fast it can increase.

I think what you linked is old information and Biden hadn’t begun to put his plans into motion yet.

Yeah I know it’s funny but still instead of sitting there laughing and filming, couldn’t they just get out and tell her? It may not be her car, or she may not have had it explained to her. I’ve looked at cars and they never explain that they are electric or hybrid. You have to note the name plates and know what they mean and then ask or read.

There are already over 9k active oil drilling permits that the oil companies are not using. Ask them why they aren’t using them before you start blaming this on some government conspiracy.

War has always had an effect on oil prices. History has proven that. It’s funny that when gas prices were this high back when Bush was president the same people who are blaming Bidon now said that Bush had nothing to do with the prices. Hypocrisy is NOT a virtue.

That is what I thought too.

It’s not a “conspiracy”. It’s obvious. A “green” administration is less oil friendly. A permit is not going to give you oil. Why would oil companies want to invest capital to get that oil when an administration is constantly expressing that we need to get off of fossil fuels or shutting down a planned pipeline, etc? If you don’t think policies like that (whether you agree with them or not) increase the price of oil, then you are either naive or in denial.

As far as hypocrisy, it seems a little hypocritical to me to tout that the party that offers us a “green new deal” is a party that offers more oil drilling permits than the previous administration and that Americans should be “elated about that news” as if it’s going to drive down oil prices. You can’t have it both ways.

Yes, the war in the Ukraine and probably more so banning Russian imports (a move I personally agree with) is driving up oil prices. But so does restricting permits (after the first year in office) and nixing a pipeline. I didn’t mention anything about a conspiracy. You did.

Bush has zero to do with anything at this point. Unless you mean the current admin is wanting to get into a war to get Russia’s oil? I believe that was the conspiracy theory thrown out during Bush’s admin? Yeah. I’m the hypocrite with the conspiracy theory.

I hate to tell you this, but burning fossil fuels is NOT environmentally friendly. To say that this administration is against all oil is a total LIE. Sorry but it is. I don’t know where you get your information from. I’m a big green proponent, but I’m also a realist. You can’t just give big oil a cart blanch on destroying our environment. And I believe it or not we’re running out of oil. We need alternative energy sources. Many past administrations were/are completely against any thing but oil and coal…PERIOD.

Because they’re realists. They know that there isn’t enough alternative energy sources besides fossil fuels. But the other side doesn’t want to move ONE INCH off of oil gas and even coal. Move one inch off of oil and they call it a communist plot. We haven’t done enough in this country to get us off oil. If we started back in the 70’s during the first oil embargo’s we would be off oil.

I really don’t car to start this again but It’s always “where do you get your information from?” Well there are 40 years of press videos to go on. Unlike the CDC director that got her information on vaccines from CNN. But yeah I agree, if their lips are moving, they are lying.

I don’t know where you get your information from either. Who is “they”? Am I “them”? None of what you said refutes the fact that oil unfriendly, “green” (notice the quotes) policies will raise the price of energy. That’s what I said. Now you’re deflecting to communist conspiracy theories and this “us” and “them” mentality which is the problem with any discussion that brushes on anything political these days.

Is that a fact? Maybe “you need to do more research”, as you tend to say.

Never said we were running out of oil TODAY. But I seriously doubt my grandkids or their kids will have much oil left.

9000 drilling permits that are not actively being used is an indication that these locations may not be profitable.

There are more than 200,000 mining claims in the state of Nevada, a small fraction of this land has active mining. the mining rights are being held for future exploration, perhaps not economically practical today.

15 months ago, oil was selling for less than $40 a barrel, no incentive for the oil industry to drill.

Oil reached $80 per barrel two months ago, the US oil industry does not have 100,000 roughnecks on standby to go to work on drilling, recovery will take time.

You could park your gas hog and drive a fuel efficient vehicle throughout the week. Driving a 4 wheel drive SUV 30,000 miles a year is not in the interest of the environment.

That’s the problem isn’t it. It’s either all or nothing. Thanks for proving my point about complaining about making 1 inch toward green.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is staged. You’ll find many staged videos on youtube so people get the hits. People make a lot of money on youtube videos.
