Gas/Oil Prices Update

… and you’re surprised because… ?

I agree, and I did not see the flagged posts. Seems like if one political comment is going to be flagged, then all of them should. Like this one:

hmmm … I seem to recall some pretty high gasoline prices during some GOP presidencies.

Nothing against George, and I’m sure his post is quite factual. I wouldn’t bother to flag it. But, if someone posts that oil prices are high and the president happens to be a Democrat, it shouldn’t be flagged just because you’re a Democratic…or vice versa.

On some topics, it seems like anything you say can be dubbed “political” because of the current highly partisan/divided state of the country.

Flag em all, or don’t flag any. That’s all I’m saying.

I was surprised George’s post wasn’t removed. @cdaquila ?

Again, I’m not asking for it to be removed. But, I guess it is by definition “political”. But no skin off my nose.

I didn’t say otherwise.

I regard constitutional freedom of speech as a principle to live by, whether required by law, or not. The founders did not intend a police state of micro management and enforcement. They wanted people to live by those principles without constant supervision.

Censorship is the tool of tyrants. Sic semper tyrannis.

I can’t claim to know either the motivations or the thought processes of The Founding Fathers, so I’m very impressed that you possess that ability.

The SNOWMAN is spouting his usual BS again. :upside_down_face: :upside_down_face:

It’s common sense. Your boss doesn’t want to stand over your shoulder every minute of the day. He’s got better things to do.

And off we go again. :expressionless:

I made my point. When people are too weak to stand, I move on. I have better things to do.

Don’t let the door hit you.

You confuse disagreeing with your BS as ‘too weak to stand’…

Flags for everyone! It’s flag day. It’s going to look like a MS State vs Ole Miss football game in here with all the flags.

I’m not flagging anything, just trying to lighten the mood. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

… which is why companies (except for Mom & Pop businesses) have an Employee Code of Conduct, to which the workers are expected to adhere. Violations–be they actions, written communication, or spoken words–can have consequences ranging from a verbal reprimand, to “being written up”, to termination.

The US and OPEC cut back on production, making the oil price shoot up. The US is still importing oil from Russia despite the sanctions. I guess it keeps the Russians from selling it elsewhere. A year after when oil prices bottomed out at the beginning of the pandemic is when I started noticing prices rising and the shortages starting. It takes a bit of time for prices to be changed. It’s not going to happen in a month, but in a year it can. A huge amount of money was dumped in to the economy due to the pandemic while fewer people were working, and international demand for the USD was low due to low oil prices. It was the perfect situation to weaken the USD and make prices rise. People say it’s not a weak dollar but increased demand that made prices go up. If there was increased demand then why was that? I think it’s all the money that people got during the pandemic due to not spending it on fuel and therefore not sent to the middle east, services that were closed due the pandemic and the workers bailed out, and the stimulous checks is now being spent. All of this money that I mentioned came from places that would have contributed to deflation and a strengthening Dollar if it had been spent normally if there was no pandemic. Additionally there is a lot of money coming in to the economy due to the inflated housing prices. People who sold made fortunes. Then you have $70,000 cars like Teslas that were purchased on credit, That’s tens of thousands of new Dollars entering the economy each time a Tesla is sold. It’s no wonder there is a weakening dollar and inflation.

Now oil prices are very high, and interest rates were raised a lot, and people are in more debt due to the extremely high housing prices. Now it looks like a big resession could be coming soon, but the USD will do well, at least until the next wave of bailouts and spending happens.

The Fed is raising interest rates to curb inflation. The time to do that was over a year ago which would have prevented the outrageous hosing price situation from occurring in the first place.

There are also anti discrimination laws. So let’s all be anti discriminatory in our flagging.

That’s all I’m saying, personally.

Seems nonsensical IMHO to call something “constitutional” if the instance is not bound by law.
The Constitution is after all, all about law.
Seems like a lot of terms like, “constitutional”, “woke”, and “patriot” are on their way to becoming cheap catchwords.

My post mentioned the phrase “GOP”, which I concur is close to crossing the line for a car-topic forum. If anyone was offended, my apologies. My excuse: Has to have something to do w/Covid … lol …

Were I to do that post over again I’d probably rephrase “during prior presidencies as well”.

In communications class, when running a :meeting, it was emphasized to first let everyone say what on their minds then go from there. It’s healthy.

All I’ll say is since Ike, there have only been three I have had any time for and one was killed. I don’t remember any farther back.

I erred on the side of not deleting that one because I looked at it as a factual statement rather than a provocation. Maybe that was naive. But we have managed to have conversations here where people discussed gas prices and energy policy or what have you without it turning into a fight.

How to explain my reasoning? If you all can keep it substantive and on topic and respectful (this is where the covid posts fell off the cliff), then it’s ok. If it’s off topic and/or name calling (you’re not talking about the topic anymore, you’ve moved fully off topic to partisan political talking points — “you socialist sheeple” vs “you homophobes and science deniers” — and it’s accusing the others of being illiterate depraved partisans who watch the wrong cable news, and so on) then I can’t let stay there.
