I have a 1998 Nissan Altima that is making a horrific noise. It seems to be coming from the front left, we have replaced water pump, wheel bearing, brakes and roters, and front end bushings. The sound doesn’t start untill we put 25 to 50 straight miles on the car. Please help?
There are many types of noise. What sound is it making?
A loud sckreech, To me it sounds like a bearing or metal rubbing on metal. The sound speeds up or slows with the speed of the car. Regardless if the clutch is in or out, coasting with the engine changing rpm’s this doen’t effect the noise. The noise follows the foward speed of the car.
Check the C.V. joints for abnormal wear. A ruptured grease-retaining dust boot would be a dead giveaway. Check the transmission fluid/lubricant, also. It sure sounds to me, by your description, that you have a worn-out C.V. (Constant Velocity) joint.
