When I start my 2005 ZX5 Focus w/5-speed trans I get a series of five fairly soft alert tones, five(5) sets of five(5) tones about five(5) seconds between the sets.
There are no lights or indicators on the dash to say what is worng. My mechanic thinks it has to do with the front airbag sensor, but is not really sure of this. The car is running perfectly.
Any suggestions?
I got a google hit on the airbag system. Did you check your owner’s manual? If your mechanic could not identify the alarm then he might not be the person to fix it. It is is airbag related, you might try a collision/body shop.
It is a warning that your SRS (airbag) light may not be working, and that you have an SRS fault. You don’t have to take my word for this. It’s actually in your owner’s manual. It goes something like this.
The SRS uses a readiness light in the instrument cluster or a tone to
indicate the condition of the system. Refer to the Air bag readiness
section in the Instrument cluster chapter. Routine maintenance of the
air bag is not required.
Any difficulty with the system is indicated by one or more of the
following:
? The readiness light will either
flash or stay lit
? The readiness light will not
illuminate immediately after
ignition is turned to the RUN position
? A series of five beeps will be heard. The tone pattern will repeat
periodically until the problem and/or light are repaired.
If any of these things happen, even intermittently, have the SRS serviced
at your dealership or by a qualified technician immediately. Unless
serviced, the system may not function properly in the event of a
collision.
