Fire! Help!

We have a 2005 Buick LaCrosse with 16,000 miles on it. After a 5 mile drive to the Vet’s office, my husband parked the car, we got out and smelled something bad. He moved the car to another spot then we went in. A few minutes later we heard a horn honking and someone came in and said smoke was pouring out of our grill! We went outside and the fumes were terrible. My husband opened the hood (probably not a good idea) and there was no fire - but everything plastic component was melted. We had the car towed to the dealer. No word on what caused this. My question is this. Can a car with this type of damage be repaired? Would you feel safe driving this car again?

Thanks,

Leslie & John

It can be repaired. It’s expensive. Either warranty, or automobile insurance should cover it — except for the deductible.

I agree it can be repaired. Insurance will cover it. Let your insurance company fight it out with Buick over whether or not this is warranty work.
