I have a 2002 Ford Explorer, and recently noticed the O/D Off light is flashing, but not always. There are times when the light is flashing and the transmission won’t shift into O/D, but other times it will. I am curious what the flashing light indicates. Thanks, Russell
The transmission control module has detected a problem. You need to get the codes checked as soon as possible. Some problems are inexpensive, and others are horribly expensive. Best to have it checked. Any transmission shop can do it.
Busted knuckes is 100% correct. Don’t delay in having this checked by an independent transmission shop that has been recommended to you. Whatever you do, DON’T go to a chain shop like AAAMCO, Lee Myles, Cottman, etc. unless you want to have unnecessary work done.
Incidentally, this is another instance of information that is contained in your Owner’s Manual. You might find it helpful to read the section of the manual that explains the meaning of that flashing indicator light.
