my compressor clutch is making an agonal whine. can this be rebuilt or does the whole compressor need to be replaced.
It might be the compressor clutch hub bearing in which case just the bearing can be replaced.
A second to willey. The clutch driven plate has to be removed; the snap ring holding the clutch pulley bearing has to be removed; the clutch pulley and bearings removed from the compressor nose; and the old bearing pressed out. The installation is the reverse of the removal. This procedure requires the use of specialized tools and is best left to a auto HVAC shop. It ordinarily does not require evacuating and refilling the charge.
Hope that helps.
