Defining wires on insturment cluster

The data for the gauges is transferred over the BUS communication system, the processor in the 2011 instrument cluster is probably not compatible with the computers in your 2007 vehicle.

So what’s wrong with the one that came with your car?

If the input data to the instrument cluster is transmitted over the CAN bus, it’s going to be nearly impossible to figure out which part of that data is for the rpm, and which is for the coolant temperature, etc with having specialized test equipment. It comes over that bus in a pre-defined protocol of on/off digital bits, time interleaved to separate the various devices. Such a swap might work, but since you tried it and it didn’t, I expect you’re back to square one. One resource at your disposal is your local used auto parts vendor (auto part recycler, wrecking lot, pick and pull). They’ll have a cross reference listing which says which model year instrument panels are compatible with your car.

Hey, I’m pretty handy when it comes to this stuff and let me tell you, I wouldn’t even CONSIDER attempting to modify one of these clusters just to get a temp gauge instead of an idiot light. Not worth it. Here’s an image of the cluster schematic I found in maybe 15 seconds searching. You can forget about an easy swap of wires etc…

Thank you all for your suggestions. I would love to get support though. I know this is hard to explain through text. Sorry yesterday my limit of posting reached the max so I couldn’t reply to any of you. Also big thank you to @It_s_Me for keeping up with my nagging really appreciate your help.

Thank you so much you saved my a lot of time. I looked all over the internet and you simply just took 15 seconds to find what I’ve been searching for a long time.

I believe swapping wires would woke because they are the same plugs and same wires count. And same mode which is -elantra hd- as some market refer to as forth generation.

I still didn’t test any of the gauges and I believe swapping could solve it, since they all have the same amount of wires. I could be wrong too.

I already found a website that tells me if the part fit my car the problem is it’s very specific and tells me that the 2009 and 2010 not compatible but it’s working in my car at the moment.

Can’t argue w/success

Well, I certainly rooting for your success but wiring is only half the battle. The communications protocol to the microcontroller must also be compatible for it to work and you’ll have much less opportunity to affect that aspect. 7 or so years difference leaves a lot of room for changes to creep into the design…

Found a video from a Russian guy who swapped them. Mine look a little different though. Just to clear things up I followed the link he provided and look for the part number online but they’re very expressive.

Thank you. Remember they are really same car but different model. I don’t believe they would change anything because the the year after they introduce the fifth generation.

Unfortunately, that is false logic

During a vehicle’s production run, which might be several years, the last few years often introduce new technology

And yes, I can think of a few models, where the very last year had new technology

and I can believe that monkeys will fly out of my butt. Doesn’t make it true.

Good luck to you in your endevor.

Did you ever answer @It_s_Me about why you are replacing the cluster? I may have just missed it.

They’ve already changed something, that’s why you want the updated cluster, right? It has a gauge you don’t currently have, right? Here’s the rub- the control computer in your car likely doesn’t know anything about those extra gauges or features so it cannot drive them. It’s a paired set of control->gauges. The programming in the control computer needs to be matched to the rest of the car. It’s not like the old days where a discrete hardware signal drove an annunciator so you could just hardwire to the extra, new gauge. A system designed in 2007 isn’t necessarily going to predict the gauge package available years down the road. And even across the same model year, a car that is built with a more spartan set of features could easily have different programming in the control computer that matches those spartan features and does not support the luxury package. In that case, simply plugging in the luxury gauge cluster doesn’t work. I think you’re in the latter category because you’ve tried plugging the newer cluster in and it doesn’t seem to work, right?

Can I have hope at least? I’m really going all the why and I believe I could make it work.

You have a soild point on changing technology and it’s not bound to a year or model but I don’t think they would change a lot, they might change a bit so they don’t introduce bugs and issues since they’re working on a budget car.

You are trying to apply logic and sensibility to car engineers and designers. That’s mistake #1, lol
These are the same people that make you take the entire front end of a car apart just to change the $100 special headlight…

I do, I do, I do believe in fairys. As Peter Pan says.

I believe it’s possible. And thank you for your good wishes.

Yep I answered him in a reply because I reached my limit of reply for the day. So I kept editing my last reply so I could communicate with him.

BIG NO. if you read through you would realize that the purpose of changing the cluster is to get the temp gauge back. the one that came in my car 2007 has the temp gauge but it brock on me so I bought another one from 2010 that only have temp light. I just want to get the temp gauge back. Also check the video I posted. You’ll understand.

Are you sure . . . ?!

How did you determine the gauge, and not the sensor, was the problem . . . ?!

You mentioned looking for some used ones. Did you try ebay? Online auto salvage network?

Ebay had a few 2007-2010 clusters with temp gauge for $50 - $100. They were simply described as “used good condition” or similar. One seller offers to program the correct mileage for an additional fee.

If you google “search auto salvage yards” or similar, it will bring up several sites to search networks of salvage dealers. A couple I tried mostly had “call” in the price column, though, so maybe you’ve already tried that.
