Clunk in rear of car over bumps?

I have the 2003 Cavalier 5spd with 68k on the ODO. When I go over dips and harsh bumps(with the radio off), I heard a clunking noise from the rear end. Could that just be the rebound of the car with not much weight in the rear??? Could shocks/struts be failing?? Am I just listening too closely???

Get the light bouncy stuff out of the trunk or secure it and try the bump again. The seats can make noises if they aren’t latched back.
