Ok, it’s hard to describe, and I’ve seen multiple mechanics about this so here goes… I’m a slow stopper. I like a rolling stop. Lately when I do that my breaks will make a clicking sound (around 6 clicks) only heard inside the car. I’d i let it click, then it’s fine, if I press the brake down all the way before the clicks it depresses in a jerky manner. This problem has existed for awhile now. I now an the proud owner of new abs module, wiring harness, multiple wheel housing assys, new brakes, rotors… That may be it with the break system. We just checked and bled the break line for air. I’m tired of paying several mechanics and no results. Has anyone heard of anything like this or am I tragically special?
Not sure if it shows on my profile, but it’s an 03 Pontiac Aztek. There is awd, but it’s been disabled practically since I got it and this issue is maybe a year old.
Inner CV joint. Does it only click straight on in a turn? Either one would be a CV joint.
Can anyone here do a service bulletin search for this? GM had lots of odd abs issues back in the day. Does this happen more on rough roads?
There may be some stored codes that do not trip a light. Stopping by a parts store, many chain ones do free reads, and seeing if there are any codes stored might provide some info.
Re clicking only heard inside of the car, what area of the car is it coming from?
Does the clicking intensify going around a curve?
It’s only after a rolling stop. No turning involved. It’s not a metallic click. There are no codes pertaining to it. I have had the AWD code practically since I got the car in 03 and this problem is inky a year old. I’ve been told it’s unrelated and don’t worry about the awd. Love having a car that has awd, but it’s useless. And I have a evap code. Clicking sounds like it’s near brake pedal, but in the car more and can’t be heard at all from the outside. This happens on all terrain. The car rides smooth though, even when breaking. All vibration is in pedal.
Thanks for the help so far! This is a vid, if you turn it up loud you can hear it.
I didn’t watch your vdo, but my first guess would have been an ABS problem, the ABS activating when it shouldn’t, likely caused by a wheel speed sensor failure. Did your shop test all the wheel speed sensors?
If the sensors are ok, my next guess would be slightly warped rotors. Ask your shop to do a run-out measurement on the rotors. I know you replaced them, but test them all the same.
Yes, I had an abs sensor problem in my right front, but we replaced the hub assy again last week and now sensors are good. I’ll check the rotors to make sure it’s not them, they were replaced when I thought it could be them 4 months ago. Doesn’t feel like rotors our hub assy. Unfortunately my car eats hub assys. It’s a love/hate relationship with this car.
Now the abs sensor was replaced, does it still click?
Yes
