Civic

do the newer model honda civic have timing chain.

It depends on your definition of “newer.” I did a quick check on Gates.com and found that in 2005 there was one Civic engine (the 1.7) that had a belt, but the other two (the 2.0 and the hybrid) did not. In 2007 none of the available engines had a belt, so they are all chains now.

One way to be certain is to check the maintenance schedule that comes with the owner’s manual. If the engine has a timing belt, there will be a recommended replacement interval in the maintenance schedule. If there is no mention of a timing belt (or cam drive belt), then you can be pretty sure the engine has a chain.
