Sounds like a worn plastic bushing on the shaft it pivots on. Not unexpected for 12 years old…

You might try applying a little lube on the bushing. If the sound goes away, at least you know what needs to be replaced. Note that some types of lube may deteriorate the bushing material. So if you apply lube to a good bushing, that might turn it into a bad bushing eventually. I’d guess white lithium grease is probably the most bushing-friendly.
