Chevy Silverado 2500HD Power Steering Whine

My truck is making a loud whining noise, it gets louder when accelerating and steering is hard. The brake pedal vibrates when shifting it from park into drive. The reservoir is losing fluid. I have taken it to a shop about 5 times in the last 6 months, each fix seems to fix it for about a day or two and then the problem is back, I think it is just them topping off the fluid. At first they said the pump was leaking so they replaced that, then they said the lines were rusty so they replaced those. Then they said the cap was on wrong and air was being introduced and this latest time they said the cooler had a hole in it that was introducing air so they replaced that. I took it on a short drive about 5 miles and the noise came back again. The last time they said they were probably going to warranty the pump and claimed it could be a bad part but I don’t believe they have. Any ideas?

You need a different shop if after they warranty the pump and you still have problems.

There might be a TSB out for the problem.

But, until the year is known, that can’t be determined.

It is a 2004.

If it is bit hard to stop the truck at times, the hydraulic brake booster may be causing your problem. The hydraulic booster is powered by the power steering pump.

Both hydroboost and vacuum brake boosters were used that year. I think the 2500 would have hydroboost.
