I started listening to the show almost 15 years ago. I find it very enjoyable. And I’m with a lot of company. It has been one of THEE most popular shows in the history of NPR. I started listening to them after years of reading their column in the paper. They are syndicated in a lot of papers all over the country.
As somebody has already suggested, at least the show is worth every cent that you paid for it, Econobox. I believe that the price was…zero.
But, as was also suggested previously, the best bet is to simply change the station, rather than to complain about something that you don’t like listening to.
What was that old quotation about, “lighting a candle rather than cursing the darkness”?
“Car Talk” is a comedy show with an automotive theme. If you want pure information, question-answer-next, look up “You Auto Know” which is done by Dave Serio in Baltimore.
That said, “Car Talk” is a lot more fun.
Maybe Pat “Grouchy” Goss would suit him better
I don’t listen to it either and have not even attempted to look for it.
OUR BPS air time ( KGLP ) is filled with area pertinent native american news/programing and I’m not even sure if Car Talk plays out here at all.
When visiting my daughter in DC it seemed easy to find so I listened in for a awhile.
Nice trolling there, econobox.
The show is goofy but pretty funny - of course, it is in reruns so it is getting a bit old.
There’s other stuff on the dial if you don’t like it.
Yup…it is in reruns…But I only listened to it when I had time on a Saturday morning. So it may be in reruns…but I’ve yet to hear a show I heard before. So it’s new to me.
If you want a definition for ‘clickbait’ use the title of this thread.
I always thought the show was funny. The brothers’ comedy revolved around not being “hip” or “cool”…and not trying to pretend otherwise. I found that refreshing–it was like hanging out with an entertaining, slightly goofy uncle or two.
Whenever the brothers would “get behind” a cause, it bothered me, on account of our political views being poorly aligned. Fortunately, that didn’t happen too often.
I do some part time work for a man who holds 3-4 concerts and 1 sometimes 2 silent movie nights a year all accompanied by a Wurlitzer Theater organ. Just saw the silent movie “Safety Last” over at his place.
@db4690 I also have fond memories, not as many as I used to but One quote I remember and use occasionally is ~ “Watching, waiting, waiting and watching with a gleaming scimitar clutched tightly in my yellow teeth!” You must be like 35 years old
I actually contribute a few bucks every month to my local NPR affiliate. Does that mean I “pay” for the show?
LOL
@db4690–Yes, I suppose that does mean that you pay for the show, but–then again–I don’t think that you would request a refund due to dissatisfaction with tapes of old programs.
As to the OP, I somehow doubt that he, “pays”, as you do, so it would probably not be possible for him to get a refund.
@vdcdriver yes you do contribute to the show as do I and we have to live with the guilt we are making some people miserable because of our charity.
@db4960, guess that explains the reruns part, I listened to the originals, and reruns has a negative connotation, on your point of view, Depends, not yet.
My Mother and Wife, couldnt stand to listen to the Guys,I made a point to listen to them almost religously on Saturday mornings,I loved that show, the girls always made me change the station-Kevin
I wouldn’t request a refund, because I’ve always been satisfied my station’s programming
And I believe CarTalk is one of my station’s most popular shows
And I’ll freely admit I’m a big fan

Am I the only one who thinks the show is just annoying and their “we’re so dumb” schtick is annoying as hell?
Am I the only one who thinks the show is just annoying and their "we're so dumb" schtick is annoying as hell?
You keep missing the point…
Don’t like it…then don’t listen to it.
And are you the only one…probably…but so what…who the heck cares.
