Can you help me ID this vehicle?

Impossible to tell, but I’ll offer up a wild guess, Chrysler SUV of some sort, maybe Pacifica.

The photos are screenshots from the video. I tried uploading the video but it hasn’t been going through. I’ll try again.

That’s a problem with security cams. They get installed up high to protect them from being vandalized or disabled, but then the photos taken are from an angle that often makes identification difficult. The bad guys know enough to wear a simple baseball hat to hide their faces, and maybe a hoody as well. That, and a Covid face mask and identification isn’t possible. And around here a lot of criminal activity starts with stealing a car, and then using it to commit the additional crime.

As someone said, high mounted lights are missing. Looks like cars.com has a lot of pictures of all angles in their database of cars! See the CR-V for yourself! https://www.cars.com/research/honda-cr_v/

Not Murano, no square rear window. Dodge Caliber not likely. Does that have a big center brake light? https://www.cars.com/research/dodge-caliber/

What about the Chevy Tahoe? Criminals like such vehicles. The 2007 generation has a wide center brake light, just like your picture.
The brake lights on the sides are big too. The 2015 is a better match with the rear rain shield that extends farther. The rear glass is square. https://www.cars.com/research/chevrolet-tahoe/

The roof of the vehicle may not be sloped down, it could be the fence that changes angles.

As a follow-on thought, are you acting in concert with the police, you wrote that there was “a crime” in your neighborhood. Do the police consider it a serious crime, you wrote that “Detectives are trying to ID the vehicle,” I have to ask how seriously are they trying? Did they just glance at the video and say it’s useless or are the canvassing the neighborhood for more footage from your neighbor’s cameras?

There are all sorts of “crimes” committed; I had a neighbor who was staying up late at night, watching to see who stole the Reflector Stick from the end of his driveway. He bought it at the Dollar Store. I told him that some kids were probably just walking down the street may have picked it up and played with it and for him to walk down the street and look for it, it’s probably lying on the side of the road or on someone’s lawn. He chose to stay up… he said, he felt “violated”, I reminded him, it was only a buck…

So, what was the “crime” committed in your neighborhood that was so serious that you feel the need to augment the police investigation, if it ranks up with being reported on the local news, we are all in; but if it’s just kids “tagging” trashcans, then…

Fair question. The driver of this vehicle proceeded to get out and then shoot multiple rounds at the parked Tesla and then shot into both of the houses in the video. This was one week ago and the detectives still have not been able to ID the vehicle through other surveillance videos so the neighborhood is trying to step up to stop this from happening again. A similar incident happened at 8pm the night before.

lol … I had a minor theft problem like that some years ago, my newspaper was being stolen from my driveway 2-3 times per week. I wasn’t about to watch the driveway from the 4 am delivery time to my 8 am pickup time. I cogitated on this and came up w/ a better solution: I put 10 old newspapers on my driveway the night before. The thief came by, had no idea which was the current one, and rather than look through all of them, stopped stealing mine, presumably took somebody else’s …lol … newspaper theft is comedy-gold. It was a topic on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Or, you could buy a surveillance camera system that covers the driveway, your front door, and possibly other areas of your property.

Every morning, I review the footage from my cams. The camera aimed at the driveway records the pickup of my trash container, as well as me pulling into the driveway–ergo, not very exciting.

The one for the front door records UPS and Amazon deliveries, along with the nightly visits of foxes and raccoons. The one for my backyard records my gardening, as well as the work of my lawn guys, but at least I would have a visual record of any other visitations, if the circumstances were of a less friendly nature.

We have another picture of the actual vehicle, though it’s black and white. It does give a better sense of the overall body style. Any thoughts based on this new view?

Here is an edited version of the photo of the vehicle, the image was “leveled” and enlarged by 80%… I did not try to remove the chain to the swing as it might also have removed detail…

still difficult to make out.

Is this a still photo captured from a video? If so that may be why it’s unclear. Post the video and we should have a better chance of determining the make and model.

My take on this matter:

This photo is probably a single frame from a video. Security cameras, especially the ones intended for home use, do not have the video capabilities or resolution to get good images at night or of a moving object.

It is so hard to tell from the picture. but maybe this 2020 ford edge?

OP, one idea, photo-editing software to improve the contrast in the latest image showing the car’s profile as best you can, then try the Google image search function. Google will compare your image to find the best fit to the images throughout the entire web. If no results, try manually outlining the car’s profile (using image software like Microsoft Paint) with a thin white line, the enhanced outline may help Google find a match.

As far as the '20 Ford Edge above, the tail end looks different to me.

I just had this idea regarding theft of packages (porch pirates). Just leave a box or two there all the time filled with confetti or some junk!

I thought a 2012ish Land Rover Range Rover Sport or Evoque was the perfect match, until the black and white side view was released. It has the curved roof, square back window, wide center brake light, and high mounted tail lights. It almost leems like the B&W images is of a different vehicle, but it does have motion blur which created that white bumper like thing on the back.

Cannot be 2020 Edge. The rear glass is not square. A 2007-14 does have square glass however. https://www.cars.com/research/ford-edge/

I think you found the best match so far.

Have you given up on this project?

No, just have been traveling and offline. I sent the detective the idea about the Ford Edge and will update w/ the likelihood that the 2007-2014 model year looks like a better fit (Note: I’m not attributing these ideas to anyone; I just said I “showed to someone who knows cars well” and that it is a best approximation given the limited views. Really I’m just trying to jumpstart the detectives’ analysis and keep this investigation top of mind as they have competing demands.

I really appreciate all the analysis…and I’m hoping there is more that the investigators are doing that I don’t know about because I haven’t received any details on their efforts to identify the car via other video footage or any other means. I will keep everyone posted with any new updates.

If the detectives are doing their jobs and doing it right, you will not be kept up to date on their investigation. They tell you something, you tell a neighbor, they tell a friend and pretty soon it’s in the paper under to topic “from unconfirmed sources” and that red car get an " Earl Scheib Paint Job…" Better for them to keep all details under wraps so the perpetrators cannot take action to dispose of evidence.
