PUFFER LAW
Due to the number of thefts of vehicles running outside warming, Denver Police issue citations with fines to owners.
Remote starters are for wimps. I’d be too embarrassed to use one.
Rather than waste money on a remote starter, man-up a little, get in, start your vehicle and gently drive away.
Thengine will warm faster under load and the fuel will be used to get you toward your destination instead of being wasted made into air pollution.
Wear gloves because much heat is pulled out of your hands holding the steering wheel.
This whole thread is a JOKE.
This whole thread is a JOKE.Not really. You all have reaffirmed there is no inexpensive way to start our Expedition from a cheap circuit run from our upstairs bedroom to the emergencyehicle below. If there were a way, I would use it all the time.
Set the truck on fire, that’ll keep it warm all night long.
"Set the truck on fire, that'll keep it warm all night long."Not many combustibles. Soon go out. But I wish I could low-burn a natural gas Bunsen burner under it for the cheapest form of heat.
I think I read that this vehicle parks in the garage, What the he-- are you concerned about. It is not that cold in the garage, at least in mine. Just leave it outside and leave the motor running. Lock it of course.
"... this vehicle parks in the garage, What ... are you concerned about. It is not that cold in the garage, at least in mine. Just leave it outside and leave the motor running. Lock it of course. This garage gets very cold. No heat. Though I always try to be gentle, the SUV is often pushed while still very cold. Too costly and not GREEN to leave running. And imagine someone geeting CO into their house. Will it lock it while running?
I still think you would be better off with a block heater and the vehicle in the garage. In the garage, the car won’t be covered with snow and ice. The block heater will keep the engine warm enough so that you will have heat in the cabin very quickly after starting the engine.
At the university from which I retired, the computer center was located in my building. A very large generator powered by a Caterpillar diesel engine was ordered to be installed in 1999 before the Y2K scare. Well, Y2K came an past and the engine was installed in March of 2000. (Apparently, the reason for not cancelling the order is that the uniiversity is now prepared for Y3K). The whole generator sits outdoors but has a block heater to keep the coolant constantly at 100 degrees F. The supervisor of the installationg crew let me fire up the engine. From the instant the starter is activated the generator will provide full power in 45 seconds. The diesel has fired up when the temperature is below zero (it starts automatically when the power supplied by the utility company fails).
At any rate, if this diesel is running in 45 seconds producing full power, I think your Expedition will be fine just being in the garage. However, a block heater will give you heat in the cabin, will be good for the engine that must be pushed hard and you will have the added benefit of not having to scrape ice if the vehicle is garaged.
We have all told this nut his best option, but he still rambles on. I still think he is just yanking us around. I am outa here.
