My service engine light indicator light comes on intermittently, and I can’t get rid of it. Have replaced gas cap leak, changed a hose my mechanic swore was the cause. It tends to come on when the car is at low rpm or when I hit a bump. Any answer?
The service engine light is accompanied by various diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that get stored in the computer. Considering that there are hundreds of these its pretty much impossible for anyone to just start throwing out guess.
Did your mechanic pull the codes? If so find out what they were. The format is a P w/ 4 numbers (e.g. P0123). It may have been written on your invoice or many auto parts chain stores will read them for free. Get the code(s) and post them. Also note any performance-type issues the car may be having.
