For cabin filters and air filters I don’t really care. It is a piece of paper filtering pollens/etc. Nothing critical to go wrong here.

My first car with a cabin air filter was a '98 Civic, and was supposed to be changed every 30K miles. At 50K, I pulled it out, cut out the paper, and glued in a piece of window screen. Of course, then I had a problem with flies in the house…
